DragonSpell by Donita K. Paul hooked me from the very beginning. I love Kale and all of the amazing characters! When Kale find a dragon egg and her masters turn her over to go to The Hall, where she is to be trained, her life is changed by Dar, a doneel, and Leetu, an emerlindian save her from a murderous band of grawligs (creepy trolls) she find that her course and life are changed. She learns that she has special powers, but is still afraid and wary of questing. Along with her comrades, she goes of to rescue a dragon egg from the evil Wizard Risto.

This is a book I highly recommend to readers of all ages! It has a great Christian message, with colorful creatures, and a wonderful quest.

Bardon heads off to solitude to think about his pending commitment to join Paladin's ranks. He is hindered by two women and a little guardian seeking to find the father of one of the women, N'Rae. Bardon believes that Kale's father may be amongst them. Is his assumption correct? Will they successfully make it and fulfill their quest?

I loved this book! With the new characters, as charming and exciting as even, this book just pulls a reader in!

Kingdom's Dawn by Chuck Black is the first book in the allegorical Kingdom Series. It is 160 pages full of excitement, truth, and adventure. The main character, Leinad, is a boy who learns of his family's true history and embarks on an adventure as a follower of the King.
In the beginning of this story, we see a young teen who has his whole life ahead of him. He and his father are farmers, but they do one thingy regularly that most who work the earth do not do. They practice swordsmanship, and Leinad begins to wonder why.
A girl named Tess is rescued by Leinad's father, Peyton, and Peyton reveals the secret of his past.
Leinad barely has time to react before disaster strikes, and Leinad and Tess are swept into a whirlwind of events. They must keep their faith for the King strong, and sharpen their swords.
I was drawn to this book from the moment I laid eyes on it at a local Christian bookstore. The covers themselves are intriguing and very attractive! Since this is an allegory, I could find several parallels between Kingdom's Dawn and the Bible. The author has skillfully crafted Kingdom's Dawn in a way that children, teens, and adults will all enjoy, by using the medieval theme. There is a discussion portion in the back that is great for families wanting to read the book together. However, the story does seem very short and rushed due to the number of pages and fast pace of it. I also wish there was more conversation and describing more than just the appearances of things. I would have liked to have gotten more acquainted with some of the characters, so I could feel more like I was in the story, not just an outsider watching.
All in all, I do recommend this book. it is full of truths. Though the story line and pace could use a bit of work, I will definitely be on the lookout for the rest of the series!

Lucy Doesn't Dissapoint | Posted January-20-2010
Lucy Doesn’t Wear Pink by Nancy Rue is about a tomboy named Lucy Rooney who learns more about God through exciting adventures by facing what she dislikes most. Lucy does not like pink, almost as much as she dislikes her aunt, who wants her to leave her blind father and come live with her, plus wants to help transform Lucy into a woman, known to Lucy as being a girly girl. She refuses, digging deeper into her dream of starting a real soccer team with her best friend, J.J. When she tries, she is stopped by her new teacher, Mr. Auggy, who requires for her to let other kids play, but they are the kids that Lucy believes hates her because she is not Hispanic. She is also having trouble at home with a new housekeeper who requires her to do a Bible study with her girly girl granddaughter, dealing with missing her mother who died when she was little, and finding a way to reconcile with J.J. who is going through a hard time and decides to dislike her. Will Lucy overcome her obstacles and sort through the lies? Will she fulfill her dream of becoming a soccer team captain? Find out in this amazing book! I really enjoyed the blend and contrast of characters and how the author describes so vividly and wonderfully how Lucy and readers may feel.

Lucy Out of Bounds by Nancy Rue is an exciting book written especially for tween girls, though I, as a teen, absolutely adore this series, as you could probably tell from my review of book one. This book centers around Lucy Rooney, who we met in the last book and is faced with a new challenges including a bobcat on the loose, her housekeeper’s daughter who falls for her best friend J.J., and of course Lucy’s struggle with her Aunt Karen, who will stop at nothing to turn her into a girly-girl.
The main reason why I absolutely love this series is because all of the Lucy books, this book included, highlights certain women from the Bible. Ruth in book one, and now Rachel and Leah are highlighted in book two. The story really related to this Bible story, and shows us that women of Bible times weren’t that different than us, and that the lessons their stories teach (in this case, forgiveness) are still applicable today.
There is also a great deal of storyteller flair in this story. Inez, Lucy Rooney and her father’s housekeeper, is the teller of the Bible stories. Her first language was Spanish, so the way she tells the story keeps the reader interested. The girls (Mora and Lucy) ask many questions and make comments that actually make the Bible study dialogues feel like a genuine Bible study.
Lucy lives with her blind father, who was in a terrible accident that also killed her mother. Lucy feels the pain of not having a parent and that’s very evident in the way she thinks and acts. Girls who may be going through the same thing will find a great literary friend in Lucy Rooney. Lucy and her father have a wonderful relationship of understanding and trust.
If I were to choose two of my favorite characters in this series it would most definitely be Lucy (of course) and Mr. Auggy. Mr. Auggy is Lucy’s teacher and soccer coach. I just love this character in Lucy Out of Bounds because it shows that adults are humans too- they have tough times and they sometimes make mistakes.
Mrs. Rue has artistically weaved the story of Lucy in a way that girls can enjoy what they’re reading, relate to the characters, and learn valuable lessons. She balances the serious and the adventure in a way that is truly inspiring to aspiring authors and will keep readers on the edge of their seat. This is why I highly recommend Lucy Out of Bounds.

Love It! | Posted January-20-2010
The third book in the Lucy Rooney series by Nancy Rue, Lucy's "Perfect Summer", is my personal favorite in the series not only because Lucy grows as a young woman and my favorite Bible character, Esther, is highlighted in the story, but also because of the soccer aspect. Lucy gets selected from a special team, but she soon find that the team is anything but perfect. More specifically, bullying and cheating in the beautiful game of soccer. I love the realistic description of the games and techniques used, as I was involved in soccer in elementary school, like Lucy. Red cards, threats, and lying have to be faced as Lucy tries to do what is right and fix her summer. However, her team's field gets destroyed, Lucy's best friend, J.J., seems to be hiding something, her team is having a hard time without her, she has "school" in the summer with Mr. Auggy, and her dad is in danger of losing his job. And, as always, Lucy has to watch out for her Aunt Karen, who will stop at nothing to change Lucy and make her live with her. What Lucy thought would be the best summer even becomes a nightmare. But with the help of Inez, the Rooneys' housekeeper, and the story of Esther, Lucy learns that sometimes the right thing isn't the easiest thing, but it doesn’t mean it should not be done. With flash floods, big games, the love of soccer, and lots of God, I highly recommend this book.

Awesome! | Posted January-20-2010
Lucy Finds Her Way by Nancy Rue is the continuation of the adventures in the life of Lucy Rooney as she faces new challenges including starting middle school, her dad being away, and her meddling Aunt Karen taking over Lucy’s life.
Just when Lucy thought she was beginning to understand her life, things have to drastically change. Aunt Karen moves in while her dad is away at a school for the blind, and Lucy is left to face the start of middle school. It doesn’t take long for Lucy to fall in the opinion of the popular kids, and Lucy’s best friend, J.J., becomes a prime target for bullying. On top of all of that unpleasantness, Lucy fights to keep her soccer dream of getting onto the Olympic Development Program alive. It may be hard getting through the new challenges, but with Inez, her housekeeper, Bible studies, and God, Lucy finds her way.
I have nothing but praise for Lucy Finds Her Way. Nancy Rue is so skilled in bringing a tween or teen character’s life seem so real, and the things Lucy faces in this book are written in a way that readers can learn lessons with eating up the adventures of Lucy Rooney. In this book, the biblical woman featured is Mary, the mother of Jesus. Lucy learns yet another lesson in the life of a woman of the Bible, and readers will be able to discover truths along with Lucy.
All in all, I highly recommend this book to gals nine and up.

I absolutely love "Lately" and can't wait for the album! Day of Fire is definitely maturing as a band...The thing I notice most about songs is the guitar work, and I give it two thumbs up!
