Since 2001, NewReleaseToday (NRT) has been connecting fans with the latest in Christian music every week. Through a heavy emphasis on quality reviews, interviews, breaking news, and devotionals, NRT has remained committed to producing some of the longest running, and well-respected editorial series in Christian music coverage from a team of passionate, and focused writers dedicated to telling the stories behind the top songs in the industry.
The first title under the newly developed NRT Books imprint (www.NRTBooks.com) will be the part-devotional, part-retrospective, Mixtape Theology, authored by William "Ashley" Mofield and Rachel Cash. Born from their popular podcast of the same name, this 330+ page book is full of nostalgia, wonder, and a whole lot of 90s cheese that readers will fall in love with as they revisit classic Christian songs from when the genre was exploding past its Jesus Music roots of the 70s and 80s.
"I was 13 years old in 1993 when I heard my first Christian album," recalls NRT Founder, Kevin McNeese. "Audio Adrenaline's Don't Censor Me completely changed the trajectory of my life and from there, a barrage of Christian music flooded my ears at every waking moment from dozens of artists and bands like Newsboys, Plankeye, Jars of Clay, Carman, Rebecca St. James, and dc Talk. When we had a chance to partner with the Mixtape Theology podcast at NRT, I found like-minded Christian music fans in Ashley and Rachel and now, to be a part of their book about this era of Christian music is just a full-circle moment for me. This book is for anyone who grew up with Christian Music in the 90s, and for those who want to discover the golden age of Christian Music."
The book features 35 devotionals based on 90s CCM hit songs that will deepen the reader's understanding of theological concepts and inspire meditation, obedience, and worship. It will also include 12 often humorous retrospectives that harness nostalgia to motivate readers to keep reading and studying.
"We can't wait for fellow Jesus Freaks to 'saddle up their horses' again and revisit 'Another Time, Another Place,'" shares Mixtape Theology authors, Mofield & Cash. "It's our hope that readers will fall in love with these songs and the gospel all over again."
The foreword is written by Third Day frontman, Mac Powell, who reminisced at the early start of his career in Christian music. "This book takes me back, and it reminds me of why I fell in love with Christian music. It's filled with humor, 90's nostalgia, and great memories from those 'good old days.'"
Additional endorsements include Michael Tait of Newsboys and dc Talk, Michael W. Smith, CeCe Winans, Bart Millard of MercyMe, Rebecca St. James, Andy Chrisman of 4HIM, Denise Jones of Point of Grace, Danielle Kimmey-Torrez of Out of Eden, Wes King, Todd Collins of Gotee Bros, Andy Leftwich, and many more.
"Christian music is such a formative part of many of our stories," shares A Frank Voice Founder, Cameron Frank. "I'm so excited and honored to be a part of bringing Christian music closer to people than ever with NRT Books, and allowing a piece of our collective faith heritage to impact lives for years to come."
Future titles are currently in development for NRT Books, which will quickly become a trusted home for Christian music fans to dive deeper into the Biblical inspirations behind top-selling tracks and to hear from the artists who wrote them while receiving practical life applications around important life themes we all face today.
