Riley Clemmons has quickly become one of the most uplifting and genuine voices in contemporary Christian music. Known for her soulful vocals, honest storytelling, and radiant energy, she continues to inspire listeners with songs that blend deep faith and relatable emotion. Her artistry reflects a heart rooted in hope, authenticity, and connection with God.

In recent months, Riley has been busy sharing her faith through new creative projects and heartfelt performances. She continues to grow her fanbase through powerful live shows and social media, offering encouragement and joy to those going through tough times. Her ability to blend pop sensibilities with spiritual truth has made her a standout in today’s Christian music scene.

Her latest release, “Runs Deep,” captures the beauty of unwavering faith through life’s highs and lows. Co-written with Christian artists Blessing Offor and Jeff Pardo, the song was initially written during sessions for her Church Pew album but eventually took on a new life of its own.

The track celebrates God’s kindness, acceptance, and steadfast love—reminding listeners that even in moments of doubt, His presence never wavers. Inspired by Riley’s spiritual journey and her cherished Nana's example, “Runs Deep” serves as both a personal testimony and a rallying cry of resilience.

In this interview, Riley discusses the inspiration behind “Runs Deep,” her creative process, and how faith continues to influence her as both an artist and an individual. She also reflects on her growth since Church Pew and shares her efforts to bring light into a world that desperately needs it.

Please tell me the personal story behind this song.

This song was co-written with Blessing Offor and Jeff Pardo during the making of the Church Pew album, but it was ultimately left off. I’ve been fortunate to grow up in a family and household where faith has always been central to our conversations. It’s something we’ve constantly talked about, and I’ve grown up knowing who Jesus is. That’s what I aim to explore in my music and who I am at this point in my life—really just leaning in and figuring out how to be the best person I can be, making mistakes along the way, and sharing those experiences so others feel less alone when they mess up, too.

My dear Nana inspired the message of this song. When I stayed at her house, I always saw her first thing in the morning with her coffee, her Bible, and talking with Jesus. As a kid, it felt familiar and warm. Looking back, I realize those moments laid the foundation for my faith, which became a part of me.

This song celebrates God's kindness, acceptance, and unwavering love for people. Our worth and flaws are seen and accepted. That’s what this song is about — it’s a celebration of the faith within us that cannot be shaken. Given the recent horrors, we need to bring hope and light into a world filled with darkness.

Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?

1 John 4:18-19 (NKJV): "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love because He first loved us."

John 10:10 (ESV): "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."

Lamentations 3:22-23 (VOICE): "How enduring is God's loyal love; the Eternal has inexhaustible compassion. Here they are, every morning, new! Your faithfulness, God, is as broad as the day."

Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV): “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV): “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

What is the takeaway message?

As an artist, I’m inspired to create from those deep places in the most honest way I can, aiming to encourage others not to give up. I've gone through seasons in life where I really wanted to give up and couldn't see things getting better. I'm so grateful that during those times, I relied on my faith and my relationship with Jesus. Honestly, some days, talking to Jesus was the last thing I wanted to do—but it was always the thing that helped me the most.

I reflect on the Psalms, one of my favorite books of the entire Bible, and I often read them for inspiration. Whether it’s King David or the other Psalmists, their writings reveal the full spectrum of human experience—the desperation, the moments when David wanted to give up, and the times he was standing on top of the mountain thanking Jesus. The Psalms capture what it means to be human: to fall and get back up, to have faith against all odds, and to feel like your faith is gone. It embodies all of these moments, reminding us that faith and honesty before God are part of the same journey.

Lyrics

Like Grandma’s voice will always sound like home
Like a preacher on Sunday talking ‘bout the Holy Ghost
Like your favorite song and singing every word out loud
Lord knows there ain’t no doubt

This faith runs deep
Down in my bones
And when I’m shaken
It steadies my soul
So come what may
I’ll fix my eyes
On the one who’s got His eyes on me
‘Cause this faith runs deep
This faith runs deep

Like war into peace or a slate wiped clean
I went down in the water, and it changed everything
My prayers go up and His grace comes down
Lord knows there ain’t no doubt

Deep like the Mississippi
Deep like love He gives me
These roots are all I need
This faith runs deep
Deep like when momma prays
Deep like that empty grave
Amen in Jesus’ name

Closing Thoughts

“Runs Deep” is a song of longing—of yearning to know God personally and to dwell in His presence. When you seek Him, He draws near. You have the incredible privilege of knowing Him intimately; He lives in you and calls you His home. We often build walls between ourselves and God, but He’s always calling us home. This song is a heartfelt expression of praise to Jesus—our endless love, refuge, and strength.

In her music video for the song, Riley radiates joy as she sings and dances—fully embracing life’s ups and downs. Her journey hasn’t been without challenges, but the message is clear: no matter what struggles or depression you face, God’s presence remains constant.

When you hold that truth in your heart, you remember that Jesus has always been, is today, and always will be the one who makes a way, even when life feels impossible. That’s something to rest in. There’s great comfort in knowing Jesus—and being fully known by Him in every detail of your life.

As followers of Christ, we stand on God’s Word and grow through every season. Have faith that He’s working all things together for your good. Dedicate time to Him; allow Him to redeem and restore you. Your story isn’t finished—He’s still writing it, one chapter of redemption at a time.

God wants you to know He’s faithful to complete what He started in every person who puts their trust in Jesus. This song inspires me to deepen my faith, strengthen my confidence, and nurture my relationship with Him. The journey isn’t always easy, but it’s the calling of every believer.

If you’re searching for stability and purpose, let these lyrics become your prayer: “This faith runs deep down in my bones/And when I'm shaken, it steadies my soul/So come what may, I'll fix my eyes/On the one who's got His eyes on me/'Cause this faith runs deep.”

These words uplift and renew the spirit: “Like war into peace or a slate wiped clean/I went down in the water, and it changed everything/My prayers go up, and His grace comes down/Lord knows there ain’t no doubt.” Amen to that.
