Lucy Out Of Bounds

Lucy Out of Bounds by Nancy Rue is an exciting book written especially for tween girls, though I, as a teen, absolutely adore this series, as you could probably tell from my review of book one. This book...
Action Packed! | Posted January-19-2010
This book was really well written as a mystery that keeps the reader guessing through the whole adventure. The characters seem so real, as the setting does. Christian themes are woven throughout the book, and though there were several problems, I couldn't stop reading. I liked the way the author keeps a romance present, but makes it clean and self-sacrificing.
Near the beginning, Charlie is attacked by one of the terrorists and takes a set of keys and money.
"Yes, I know the Ten Commandments...But this didn't feel like stealing. The guy was...my killer...I figured he owed me at least this much." [p. 12]
Charlie's stealing was deserved?
Charlie also once hides the truth from his parents.
"It's not like I was going to lie about it...I was just going to tell the truth a little late..." [p. 104]
Isn't not speaking up about the truth the same as lying?

I loved this book. With plenty of excitement, lessons, and battles, this book couldn't get any better. The ending is incredible and is definitely a wonderful conclusion.
My Favorite in the Series! | Posted January-19-2010
The Rise of the Wyrm Lord,by Wayne Thomas Batson, is the story of a girl named Antoinette who ventures into a new world of Glimpses, strange creatures, and a mission commissioned by King Eliam himself. Aidan Thomas, who we met in the first book of the Door Within Trilogy, meets Antoinette and discovers that she also believes in the Realm. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The Rise of the Wyrm Lord has characters that seem so real, a land that I could really understand, one that didn't feel too foreign or too familiar. Genuinely creative ideas are placed throughout this book, with a good balance of drama and humor, even a splash of romance. I also enjoyed the action and adventure in this book. I highly recommend this book to fans of fantasy.
A Great Read For PreTeens | Posted January-19-2010
The Door Within by Wayne Thomas Batson is the exciting beginning of a fantasy-filled trilogy. Mystery, intrigue, and adventure fill the pages of this very good book. Meet Aidan Thomas, your regular teen guy. Not too popular, and if he ever was it was due to the fact that he was best friends with one of the coolest guys on the block, Robby. However, Aidan and his family must move from everything Aidan knows to care for Aidan's ill grandfather. There, Aidan discovers mysterious scrolls and a door to another world.
Some scenes seemed a little awkward, which is understandable since this series was written before Isle of Fire and Isle of Swords. Also, the whole idea of the story seemed very familiar. The idea of twins in another realm reminded me a little bit of the Circle series by Ted Dekker and it really reminded me of the Wormling series by Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry.
I would recommend this book to readers ages ten and up.
Swashbuckling Adventure! | Posted January-19-2010
I picked up this book skeptical of pirate books that claimed to be Christian, but I was proved wrong. Captain Jack Ross his crew, and his feisty daughter, Anne, are thrown into an adventure and quest to acquire a wonderful treasure hidden by monks. With shipwrecks, an evil pirate, adventures on the high seas, and a great Christian message, this book is a great read for fiction lovers. I loved this book with it's characters full of personalities and the adventures of pirates. It weaves the story in a way that keeps you turning the pages. Anne Ross is one of my few very favorite female characters of all time. I love her spirit, courage, and strength. Truly inspiring, not to mention a swashbuckling adventure!

It only gets better than the last book, Isle of Swords. Cat, who lost his memory in the last book, is slowly regaining memories- memories that could haunt him for the rest of his life and change his life forever. Anne Ross, the spunky, courageous, and redheaded daughter of Declan Ross, grows in her faith in God and also has her dreams come true in the most unlikely way. Declan and Commodore Brandon Blake embark on an adventure (separated for the majority of the book) that will tie up loose ends and inspire all. Let's not forget Hopper. A quick-thinking, resourceful young man who captures the hearts of readers. And finally, Bartholomew Thorne and a new villain, the Merchant. Thorne is dead, or is he? The reader also finds out how dangerous the Merchant really is as the story builds up to a huge battle that will determine all. With a beautiful beginning, great building up of the story with the development of many characters, and the epic climax involving fire rain, I highly recommend this book.
