For those seeking uplifting, faith-filled music rooted in Scripture and centered on God’s grace, Seph Schlueter is an artist worth discovering. Below is a conversation about his new song, “Life With You.”
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
“Life With You” may initially be mistaken for a romantic song, but it is actually a deeply personal love song about the saving grace of Christ. The song highlights my journey from being lost and hiding scars to finding belonging, emphasizing a sincere, intimate relationship with God. It reflects on finding true joy and a new world in God’s presence, underscoring that walking with God is better than anything known before.
When I sang it for my wife, I told her it could be a love song. After she heard it, she said, “It’s a worship song.” That’s true, but it also reflects my love for her.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Romans 8:28 (VOICE): "We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan."
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV): "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Philippians 1:6 (NKJV): "Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ."
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV): "And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." John 8:36 (NIV): "So, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
Romans 8:31(NIV): "What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
John 1:12(NIV): "Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God."
What is the takeaway message?
Like "Counting My Blessings," this song focuses on gratitude and on recognizing God’s role in transforming my life. Reflecting my life as a worship leader, husband, and missionary, I prioritize writing songs that facilitate listeners to have their own personal encounter with God. My hope is that this song serves as a reflective, honest look at finding peace. I’m aiming to convey that life with God is the ultimate, fulfilling journey.
Lyrics
Feels like I won the lottery Didn’t have to pay a thing When love is real it’s really free
Feels like You knew me all along You wrote the lyrics to my song I wanna sing it on and on
Why would I ever go back? Would I ever go back? Now that I know what I have Never gonna look back
Cause life with You Is more beautiful than anything I’ve known before Life with You Is like living everyday in a brand new world Loving You is easy When You love me like You do It’s not hard to choose Spending my life with You
When You took my hand, you stole my heart Tore insecurity apart Cause I didn’t have to hide my scars
Why would I ever go back? Would I ever go back? Now that I know what I have Never gonna look back
This life with You is so much better You hold my universe together And I might not understand it ever But I get to be with You forever, forever
I might not understand it ever I’ll sing about the best love ever Forever Together Never
Dead end Said it
This life with You it feels like Heaven Anything else would just be a dead end
More joyful More meaning
It’s healing It’s meaning It’s revealing
Cause I didn’t have to hide my scars Cause You love
When You said You wanted all my scars
Before You found me I was lost Stumbling aimless through the dark But You took my hand You took my heart
When I was living on my own Couldn’t call this house a home
When You took my hand You took my heart Pulled me right out from the dark
I let my old ways fall apart
When You took my hand You took my heart
So why would I live in the past Your heart is right where I belong And for once I felt like I belonged Belong From Gone On and on Song Thought Wrong
You looked straight into my heart The pain and joy inside my heart The joy and hurt inside my heart
It’s like Your heart was made for me
Before I met You I was lost
Stumbling aimless through the dark Like a runaway in the dark Like a child in the dark
Thought I’d always live in the dark
Stumbling in the dark
Feels like I won the lottery Didn’t have to pay a thing Feels like
A life with You This life with You O’ I still can’t believe What Your love has done for me
You filled my heart up You chased out the loneliness Made me whole again Gave me what only You could give
It’s like I won the lottery
And sometimes it’s hard for me To put it all into words
Every moment’s a melody Every breath is a melody
Colors are brighter
I wouldn’t trade it for anything
Everyday I choose Life with you
Is like living every day in a brand new world The whole wide world
I finally feel like I belong
I wanna sing it on and on My heart the page they’re written on
And now I sing it on and on And it’s the sweetest sound of all
Told me the lies I heard were wrong
I never wanna go back
Closing Thoughts
“Life With You” is a celebration of God's love, despite our brokenness. The song's beauty lies in its ability to embrace us with words of comfort and to celebrate God’s joy in sharing our stories. It beautifully illustrates His love for us. When you listen to the song, allow the thought of “You filled my heart up/You chased out the loneliness/Made me whole again/Gave me what only You could give,” to bring you to a place of worship.
The song emphasizes that Jesus is the solution, the one appointed and anointed by God for our salvation. He is the only one capable of saving us and transforming our broken dreams into testimonies of joy.
The Good News of the Gospel, which this song portrays, is that God accepts us—no matter what we've done or what we’re going through. In many areas of our lives, we also spend a lot of time worrying. We need to let that go and allow the Lord to be our redeemer.
The song challenges me to consider what I'm allowing to rule my heart, rather than giving myself completely to God.
Jesus died on the cross to set us free from the battle of our minds, from sin and death. And, He wants us to have an abundant life in Him. What a wonderful, encouraging truth. God knows us intimately. And because of what Jesus did on the cross, He sees us as holy, righteous, redeemed, chosen, fully known, and forgiven, no matter what we've done.
If you've put all of your hope and trust in Jesus, there's nothing that can separate you from His love. Romans 8 reminds believers that neither death nor life, fear nor failure, nor anything else in all creation “will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” God’s love is not based on our perfection, but on His grace and the finished work of Jesus on the cross.
If you think about the type of faith we are called to have as believers, it is described as the faith of a mustard seed. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus says that even faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains. The beauty of that truth is that God can do great things through even small steps of faith when we place our trust in Him.
On page 94 of the book Crazy Love, author Francis Chan writes: “I was challenged to do a little exercise with these verses, one that was profoundly convicting. Take the phrase ‘love is patient’ and replace ‘love’ with your name. Do it for every phrase in the passage. By the end, don't you feel like a liar? If I am meant to represent what love is, then I often fail to love people well. Following Christ isn't something that can be done halfheartedly or on the side. It is not a label we can display when it is useful. It must be central to everything we do and are.”
One of the lessons I've seen about life is that we shouldn't wait to fix ourselves before stepping out in faith. Look for ways to obey God and offer your faith to Him.
Sometimes Christians know facts about the Bible but don't live out the truth that the Holy Spirit is living inside us. The beauty of walking by faith, not by sight, is that we can trust God. Have faith and let God “work all things together for good.”
God tells us in the Bible that with faith, we can do anything in Christ. His love is never-ending, and He is our refuge and our strength. As believers, heaven is calling our name. He is real, He is near, and He is just a breath away. He is the author of our lives and knows what's best for us—much better than we do. That's reason to sing this empowering anthem at the top of our lungs in gratefulness to Him.
If you are looking for a firm foundation in your life, make these lyrics your personal prayer: “And now I sing it on and on/And it’s the sweetest sound of all/Told me the lies I heard were wrong/I never wanna go back.” Amen to that.
