Fading West

Switchfoot It took me awhile to catch onto Switchfoot, but once I did I haven't stopped listening to them. Now with number eight dropped in the thick of winter, this album is a breath of crisp summer air. There...

We As Human We As Human could have picked a better release date for their debut as this solid offering will struggle to overcome the shadow of Skillet's "Rise." It is fitting though that the band John discovered...

Words I can use to describe this album: honest, emotional, real, powerful, relatable. You can tell Sanctus Real has matured a lot and you can tell by their songwriting on this album. SR have a signature sound which is still on this album, but they have slowed down a bit. This fact is not bad, in fact it is enjoyable. It truly sets the mood. Great work.
Thrash time! | Posted March-05-2010
This is everything Ryan and crew said it would be. Faster, louder, tougher. Ryan said "thrash" like. Definitely agree with him on that one. There's a nice blend of melody, screaming, and fast guitars. The ballads Driving Nails and Blood in the Tears are to be sure favorites in lines of Carry Me Down and My Heart is an Open Grave (also, One Thousand Apologies). Collapsing is like Fading Away is some aspects, but this definitely DH moving in a better direction. Get ready to move on this one. Great! I love the honesty of LifeWar. Then This is Line, I know this will be a chat among Christian metal heads. Everything is awesome, but then again I could be a little biased. Buy this!

Now this is what I call worship. Brown is fantastic. I can't help but bow my heart to God listening to this CD. When I saw him in concert, I knew the worship scene would be blessed with something special. Worship music is not just for Sunday service, and Brown's music helps you take Jesus with you after you leave church. Truly a pleasure to listen to.

Between DC*B and Gungor (aka The Michael Gungor Band), there is new brand of worship on the horizon. Experimental, edgy, eclectic, moody, atmospheric, moving, are just a few words that could describe both bands type of worship music. "Beautiful Things," is worship music like I have never heard it. I truly enjoyed this CD. If I had to chose a favorite (which is hard) I would have to choose "Dry Bones," "People of God," "Late I Have Loved You," "Cannot Hold You," and the title track; but again there is not a dud on here. Truly enjoyable.
Nervous at first | Posted February-12-2010
I have to admit, I was nervous at first about this album after I read the lyrics. However, when I bought it when it dropped, I must say THIS IS TOBY MAC'S BEST ALBUM YET! Well mixed, and the lyrics work with every song. I like the vibe and flavor of this release. It touched me and moved me, and I imagine it will do the same to many others. Buy this, you won't be disappointed;)
I cannot wait | Posted February-02-2010
When I heard "For Those Who Wait" and "Desperate" live, I knew this album would be a career defining moment for Fireflight. If you don't know about Fireflight, you will definitely not get them out of your heads after this one. The haunting "Name," and "Recovery Begins," showcase Dawn's beautiful voice and dynamic range as well as a piano track that truly sets the mood. This whole album is laced with hope and that waiting on God is a good thing because He always keeps his promises. I am betting that Fireflight's popularity will sky rocket after this one. Love it!

Wickham is an acquired taste, but honestly one of the most talented male vocalist/songwriter/musician of this decade. "Heaven and Earth" is by far the best solo male record of the year. The production is smooth, the sound crisp, and Wickham's vocals shine on every track. It is very hard to chose a "bad" song on this release, this CD is that good. It's surreal and humbling. A real treat. A must buy.
Bring [rock] to life | Posted September-10-2009
TFK is back and better than ever. From the reviews I have read on this album, the majority say that TFK has combined every element that worked for them on Set if Off to The Flame in All of Us into Welcome to the Masquerade; this is very true, but I must add that they kicked it up an notch. While the slower songs kind of hinder this album, "Already Home," is by far the best rock song of this year; this is argumentative nonetheless. Great album, and must buy for every fan of TFK or rock music in general.
Entering a crowed scene | Posted September-08-2009
I give this CD 4 stars based on the effort it took to jump into a scene that is already crowed with well established acts such as TFK, Pillar, Kutless, Disciple, Skillet, and the up and coming Decyfer Down. Will the EtF does have their own sound, they can tend to sound like many of the bands I mentioned. "Break Away," and "Here to Stay" (the beginning two songs) are evidence of that. However, it is the lyrics and the vocal delivery on "A Life Less Loved," and the title song "Bloodline" are what make Etf different. I enjoyed this album, but mostly because it is not any different that what I listen to. Great addition for the fans of TFK, Pillar, and Decyfer Down.

Dillion is someone I listen to on those lazy summer days, but she has put out an album I can listen to getting ready in the mornings in the fall. This is album is great and her voice is beautiful. She has matured a lot over the years and it is apparent on Stop & Listen. Not the type of music I listen to a majority of the time, but definitely something I'd listen to. Great lyrics and musical arrangements. I like it.
