An OK album | Posted August-09-2011
With every Mat Kearney CD- I miss "Bullet" so much more. Not to say this CD isn't any good but where Mat Kearney was original and fresh was the mixing of the back beat/ rap vocals with stunning guitar/piano work. While certain songs on this CD (see and download: Ships in the night) hail back to the good ol' days...most of the work is reminiscient of his previous work "City of Black and White"

Again? | Posted August-09-2011
Normally this is a sign that an artist is not going to be putting out any more new music. We've already had a "greatest hits" collection from Mrs. Dillon once before- so since there is hardly anything new on it- i guess you could just say- she's still got great songs.

Hmmmmm.... | Posted August-09-2011
I was skeptical about this album because it seems like it's been FOREVER since I have seen the original promo for this artist. It's a pretty solid R&B album with flairs of dance/pop that is popular with most secular artists- think Bruno Mars/ Drake - autotune) but with a positive message. Many of the tracks are reminiscient of TobyMac...

Fantastic Worship Album | Posted July-12-2011
I am a huge fan of Bethel Church... William Matthews debut Cd is one of the best worship debuts that I have heard in a long time. The songs are absolutely fantastic. They are good to listen to in the car but then if you're a worship leader (like myself) there are so many fantastic songs to bring to your congregation. The music bridges all musical gaps - from pop/rock to soul to folk/indie- it's a really good mix of tunes. The album kicks off with Deep Cries out to Deep- a higher energy song that is super fun to sing along with. It has a catchy hook and is really quite infectious. This one Thing and I just want you more are 2 fantastic songs that we use in our church now- because they are just a cry of our hearts: more of God's presence. I'm free is where the bluegrass influence kicks in and it's a welcome "different" song that surprised me. So Good to me is another great soul/pop song that's got a crazy cool message. Pick up the CD- it's fantastic.

hahahahhahahhahah | Posted May-16-2011
hahahaha this song cracks me up. and the video is RIDICULOUS. I think that it's hilarious that Chris is doing a "rap" song about candy. It's so out-of-the-box and strange for this dove award winner to go this route- but he pulls it off.

Hmph. | Posted March-26-2011
No doubt these ladies are talented and can sure enough sing; however, I have been losing interest in them since "Mary Mary" . Grant it- they have had some great songs on their previous 2 albums "God In Me" "Get Up" etc but I just don't really care for their latest "Something Big"- the title track starts off where "T he Real Party" left off with the same kind of beat and call and response- I found it quite repetive and annoying. "Something Bigger" didn't help. I was annoyed with the fact that the song titles were so similar- the beat and the vocals were annoying to the point of turing off the speakers- the lyrics weren't good either. "Nobody wants to be a loser...." - ha- it implies that people are losers. I didn't really enjoy the album till "Never Wave My Flag" but it didn't last long. "Walking" is just a musical hot mess. The chord progression throughout the song is just strange. It sounds like somebody is hitting the wrong keys on the piano- there is major disharmony in the piano keys being played together. "Survive" was nice- although it was repetive AGAIN.
"Catch Me" was nice. "Homecoming Glory"- for me- was doomed from the start because one of my favorite songs ever is a song titled "HomeTOWN glory"- and it just didn't work for me.
2 out of 12 songs.
One of the BIGGEST factors of this CD that made it unenjoyable is the repetiveness of single words or simple phrases- that didn't really come together as a chorus.

A New Chris Tomlin CD... | Posted March-26-2011
WOW! Chris Tomlin is releasing CDs right and left- and with this new Passion CD it really is another extension of Chris Tomlin with a few (too few) David Crowder Band songs scattered in. (Loved the addition of LeCrae... because we all know when we think of worship- we think Lecrae) Charlie Hall is noticeably missing (except in the DELUXE edition) Kristan Stanfill comes in with "Forever Reign"- and while I love the song- I don't think that it needed to be on this album. We've got the Hillsong machine pumping out that song- we don't need a US version that doesn't differ in instrumentation and arrangement to clog up our MP3 players. Christy Nockels is under utilized like in every Passion CD but her songs are the stand out tracks. and so that I don't tick off all of the Chris Tomlin fans- I do like "All My Fountains" very much.

Really good Album | Posted March-26-2011
It normally takes me a few listens to get used to Shawn's album. When I heard the first single, Closer, I immediately loved it. The piano intro was beautiful- his subdued vocals were stellar (as always) and the lyrics- although the theme is alittle overused in CCM- were heartfelt and you could tell that it was a true heartfelt prayer- not just a disconnected song that the artist would sing just to seem relatable to his listeners. This cat lives what he sings. You can tell.
The instrumentation in this album is alittle quirky but I love it. Mr. McDonald has a way of coming up with some fresh melodies that instantly capture your attention (HOPE). The use of strings sets him a part- and they are stunning- stuff I would love to have an instrumental of.
Control was the only song that I thought was odd- the vocals are strange- although I like them in the chorus.
It's worth picking up. Very easy listening. Best songs: Closer, Hope, The Space In Between Us, Mystery
