Awesome!!! | Posted November-07-2008
This book is so sweet. It didn't make me cry like the first one, but either I was in a weepy mood that day or it's because nobody dies in this one. It continues the story of Cody Gunner after Ali Daniels is gone. 2 problems I had; it never mentions Cody staying in touch with Ali's family, and you'd think he'd do that. Also, the new love interest for Cody is named Elle. Ali and Elle? Overall, a great book.

Awesome Read | Posted November-01-2008
I had a hard time putting this one down. I felt so sorry for Joey, having to be uprooted like that. And I totally sympathized with Molly and Jack. This one had more Christianity in it than "A Thousand Tomorrows". There it was subtle but always underlying. This was sincere without being sappy, as I've found some Christian works to be. I continue to be satisfied at how she deals with bad characters by not going overboard in describing their badness, and how people find Jesus. A most admirable story of desperation, sacrifice, and reconciliation.

Made me cry | Posted October-26-2008
A beautiful story that details the kind of love Jesus talked about. Not sure about the whole organ donation element to the story, but as a love story, it's so sweet. I cried a lot near the end. Not sappy in the least.

Merry Christmas Early!! | Posted October-09-2008
This album combines old favorites with more recently written songs. What's interesting is that the only one that Mark Hall actually wrote is "While You Were Sleeping"- the version here is a slightly different variation in that it omits references to Easter and replaces it with another verse about Mary and baby Jesus; which is understandable, given that this IS a Christmas album.
"I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day", although based on a poem somebody else wrote, is like the some of the songs this group has put out in the past-not believing and coming to it in the process of the song.
The old standards, such as "Silent Night" and "Away In A Manger" are very well done and reflect the group's friendly, non-jump and scream mood. Plus, the title is lived up to in this.
Perhaps the best way of ending the CD is with the mood of the last song being soft and sweet. "O Come O Come Emmanuel" is all instrumental.
Altogether, a great any day before Christmas gift.

My first intro to the group | Posted October-04-2008
I like most of the songs, but I'm a little creeped out by "Scarlet"- the vampire analogy is hard for me to get around. "Revolution" is very pots and pans clanging sounding, but I like it. "Fly" is beautiful. The title track is also very meaningful. "Something Beautiful" is good.
Jars of Clay's style of music appeals to me- a very anti-establishment feel.

Yeah!!! | Posted October-03-2008
My favorite song on this album is "Thankful". Although it sounds more like Thanksgiving, it's a beautiful song about not taking things for granted. Josh Groban sings Christmas songs like David wrote Psalms....beautiful and inspired.

Grows on You | Posted October-01-2008
The album, as a whole seems kind of high schoolish.
This Ordinary Life: Kind of a nothig song. Doesn't say much
Sellout: Grabs you...really. I enjoyed this song so much.
Love Has No Walls: Typical of songs in its vein. Unremarkable
Mr. James: Good message. Needs a new chorus.
Open Wide My Heart: Pretty good. Standard
Be Strong: Envouraging
Stand: SYATP should adopt this as an anthem
Heart of Every Man: Hope to all. Good message
Forever And Beyond:Hopes of heaven. Nice
Just Like You: Interesting way of turning the phrase "just like"

Not all the best.....and I've never heard all their songs | Posted October-01-2008
Spinnin' Around: I liked this, but why was it best of? First doesn't necessarily mean best.
Throw Your Hands Up: I like this one 'cause it's got a good beat but isn't dirty
Don't Run Away: True, true. Very good message, nice tune.
Beauty and the Beast: Why did they do this one? Oh yeah, because of their affiliation with Disney. But why this specific one? I don't even listen to it. Maybe it's the metaphorical qualities of the movie's story.
Beautiful to Me: God is obvious in this one (A picture of perfection by design /And you are mine) and the message is Diamond from God's POV
All I Can Do: Energetic.
God Bless the U.S.A.: I LOVE THIS ONE!!! Very good harmony.
Do Ya: Upbeat but too many "do ya"s . Another self-esteem-change-your-outlook-not-your-look message
We Are Family: A good fit for them. After 5 inseparable years its probably true. Plus 2 of them are bro and sis for real.
Dance With Me: Could be a girl high school dance song or girl and God song. Makes you want to live up to the title.
It's a Beautiful World: School song
Friends: also a good fit for them.
Songs I wish were on this CD:
Change a heart, change the world
Tell Me Why
I Belong To You
Love Ya Too Much
When I Say Your Name

I still love this music | Posted October-01-2008
Jump5 will always be one of my favorite groups. They have so much energy and obviously love what they're doing. (Although don't get me started on a youtube video I saw on deezer with them singing "I surrender all" in concert. Eyuk. Plus their music videos have almost nothing to do with the song. Even just a plain one with them in concert as an MV would be better.)
Anyhoo, on with the song-by-song review!!
All I Can Do: Although two lines leave you with the impression that the person is complaining slightly("and it's all I can do/not to think about you") very catchy.
Throw Your Hands Up: STOP USING THE BAND NAME IN THE LYRICS!!!!! Alive and great to dance to.
Summer Song : Not much about God here. Just beach fun and parties
Joyride : Again, doesn't call God by name but still manages to get the point across.
Angel in My Heart :One of those "Wind beneath my wings" thank you songs. Pretty obviously God. Slow and thoughtful
Put Me in the Picture: Infectious and peppy. I love the metaphors in this one.
Forever in My Heart: The second "In my heart" song. Clearly about Jesus (You came to save me from myself/You took the blame (shame)/You love me like nobody else...)
Diamond : Good self-esteem God-loves-you song for girls. Very inspiring
Throw Your Hands Up [remix] : As good as the original
Joyride [remix]: better than the original
All I Can Do [remix] : Original was better.

A bodacious beginning (revised; i couldn't finish it yesterday) | Posted October-01-2008
How do you know when you're getting old? When a group you've followed since their inception (sort of) disbands. Even though it's only been 5 years, I still feel old. I love the music of Jump5, and I'm 20.
Spinnin' Around: Very poppy. Popsome? Popful? Poppish? (Whatever!) Although I have a slight disdain for songs that brand themselves forever by mentioning the group name in the lyrics, the song itself is a good dance song.
Virtual Reality: Nice SFX. Also a great dance song for a party.
Change A Heart, Change The World: I wanted this to be my Grade 8 grad song, but I didn't ask the music teacher in time.
Meaning of Life: Says what it needs to and I love the message
All I Want: Short and sweet. I developed a liking for this song the more I listened to it. Sounds like a Jump Rope For Heart Song.
Wish That I Could Read Your Mind: Has a summer camp by the lake feel to it. Wishing to be able to see what is in a friend's heart. Don't we all?
Tell Me Why: Another "I-don't-deserve-your-love-but-thank-you" song. Who could ever get tired of that? (I may sound sarcastic, but I'm not)
I Belong To You: Sweet in the chorus, but has a totally different feel in the verses. A little R and B there.
Love Ya Too Much: Slow and quiet. One of at least two songs referring to God as "Ya" (the other one is "Do Ya")
When I Say Your Name: Expresses a common theme of the power of God's name to change your feelings. Interesting repeats of "when I say Your name" by lone female member (not sure which one)
Start Jumpin': Even more like a Jump Rope For Heart Song. Also mentions the group name. Good for dance.
