Tommee Profitt isn’t a singer or in a band like most of the artists NRT features, but he’s in a class of his own. He’s a producer and songwriter whose music has been featured in movie trailers, television promos, and video games. He has produced for mainstream artists as well as Christian artists like NF.
Profitt has released nine volumes of his Cinematic Songs albums featuring a variety of artists, including Stephen Stanley and Mike Mains. He has also released two albums of covers of popular mainstream hits with his signature style woven into each track.
In 2020, Profitt released The Birth of a King, a Christmas album with incredibly unique takes on the arrangements of popular Christmas songs. This project has expanded into a live concert at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, featuring over 20 artists, a 60-piece orchestra, and a 100-person choir.
In 2026, Profitt released The Resurrection of a King, an album he calls the year-round companion to The Birth of a King. This album transforms classic resurrection-themed hymns into powerful, emotionally driven arrangements sung by a variety of artists, including Phil Wickham, Crowder, and Jamie MacDonald.
Now that you have a little history on this prolific artist, let’s dive into a few essential Tommee Profitt songs.
“O Come O Come Emmanuel”
“O Come O Come Emmanuel” is the first song from Profitt’s album The Birth of a King, and the first song of his I had heard. The song is sung by a children’s choir and features layers of violins, drums, piano, and other instruments. This has always been one of my favorite Christmas songs, and I remember being completely blown away by this version the first time I heard it.
“Go Tell It On The Mountain”
Another song from The Birth of a King, “Go Tell It On The Mountain,” features the vocals of Crowder. The arrangement of this song really makes you stop and think about the lyrics. To be a song I’ve heard at Christmas my whole life, this version is driven with so much passion and truth that Jesus Christ was born for us.
“He Arose”
Flip through an old church hymnal, and you’ll likely find “He Arose,” but Profitt’s version makes you feel like you’re hearing the song for the first time. This song was the first single released from The Resurrection of a King. Sung by Christian artist Phil Wickham, the song remains largely the same lyrically, with a few powerful additions, while the arrangement is completely reimagined. The emotion in this song underscores the core of Easter. Death was not the end. He arose.
“Just As I Am”
Growing up in a Baptist church, I remember hearing this as one of the traditional altar call songs. It was always sung slowly, but Profitt’s version brings this classic hymn back to life. Featuring vocals from Christian artist Jon Reddick, Profitt’s musical interpretation of “Just As I Am” is incredible. With this song and all of his music, you can tell that he doesn’t just pick random artists for vocals, but that each choice is thoughtfully considered and intentional.
“Forbidden Fruit”
In 2025, Profitt released The Fall, a concept album collaboration with singer/songwriter/producer Sam Tinnesz. The album centers on themes from the Garden of Eden and the fall of man. The song features vocals from Tinnesz and Brooke, who have also been featured on other Profitt songs. This is an album best listened to from beginning to end, as it tells a full story. But “Forbidden Fruit” is one of those songs that encapsulates the emotion and depth you’ll hear in many of Profitt’s songs.
“I’ll Carry You”
From his Cinematic Songs (Vol. 8) album, “I’ll Carry You” features the vocals of Christian artist Stephen Stanley. It’s a song of encouragement for someone going through trials. All nine volumes of Cinematic Songs feature music with cinematic themes that could be part of a hit movie's soundtrack.
Felicia Holt has been writing for NRT since 2024. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and children. She is a lifelong fan of Christian music and enjoys attending concerts and spending time outdoors with a good book.
