I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a bit of a dumpster fire. However, there's a long list of amazing albums that are gearing up to make this summer a lot more memorable!
We compiled together a list of the albums that are coming out from now through September that you won't want to miss, and I hope that it will make your year a little bit better!
Sidewalk Prophets - The Things That Got Us Here (7/3)
Sidewalk Prophets is a great band that has been around since 2003. They've had hit song after hit song, including their song "Smile" which is featured on their new album The Things That Got Us Here. Dave Frey, the band's lead singer, says, "our new album is a collection of stories of where we've come from and where we're going." This is an album that you're going to love, and one that you'll want to be listening to on your next summer road trip. (Read Our Staff Review)
Dan Bremnes - Wherever I Go (Acoustic Sessions) (7/17)
Dan Bremnes is an extremely talented artist, and if you've never heard of him before, let's change that! Back in 2015, he released his debut album Where The Light Is, and since then he's been releasing more amazing music. Last year he released Wherever I Go, and now he's back releasing the acoustic version of that record. This album features a lot of collaborations, with artists like Mike Donehey from Tenth Avenue North and Chris Cleveland from Stars Go Dim. Don't miss out on this new album. (Read Our Staff Review)
Unspoken - Reason (Deluxe) (7/24)
We all loved Unspoken's album Reason that came out last year, and now they're releasing the deluxe version of the album. It features one brand new track, two live songs, two remixes, and an acoustic song. I'm so excited to listen to these new tracks, and I'm sure a lot of other fans are too.
Rebecca St. James - Dawn EP (7/24)
It's been quite a while since we've heard new music from Rebecca St. James, so fans were elated when she released her single "Battle Is the Lord's" featuring Brandon Lake. Well now, friends, she's releasing a brand new six-song EP titled, Dawn! This is her first studio recording in nine years, and I'm sure it will be a hit.
Chris Tomlin - Chris Tomlin & Friends (7/31)
"Friends are friends forever"–oh wait–that was a different album. Nevertheless, Chris Tomlin is releasing a new album at the end of July. Every song on the record features an artist or band, either from mainstream music or Christian music. His song "Who You Are To Me" featuring country band Lady A recently hit radio, and his song "Reaching For You" features a new band, We The Kingdom. This album is unique, and will probably be a bit different from his other albums. I'm excited to hear this record!
Cory Asbury - To Love A Fool (7/31)
In 2017, Cory Asbury released his song "Reckless Love," and since then, his music has exploded. From impacting radio to Justin Bieber singing a cover of his song, Cory Asbury has had an exciting career so far. This ten-song album is Cory's first full-length album in two years. Cory is always releasing amazing new worship music for the church, and I'm sure this album will be no different.
We The Kingdom - Holy Water (8/7)
Lately, We The Kingdom has been absolutely lighting up Christian music. They quickly gained popularity after releasing their hit radio single "Holy Water," and ever since then, people have fallen in love with their music. Ironically, the Bieber not only loves Cory Asbury's music, but he's also a fan of We The Kingdom. He promoted their song "Peace" on Instagram saying, "This song is beautiful. What we all need right now is peace. Go find this song, listen, and enjoy!" I'd say their debut album, Holy Water, is one that you won't want to miss out on.
Seventh Day Slumber - Unseen The Lion (Part 1) (8/7)
Seventh Day Slumber is a popular Christian rock band, who has released tons of albums over the years. Last year the band released their album Closer To Chaos, and now they're back, releasing more new music! Not a whole lot is known about their new record Unseen The Lion and the Lamb, other than the fact that it will be a worship album and released in two parts (Part 2 releases in September). I haven't heard of a lot of rock bands doing worship music, so I'm excited to see what their new album will sound like.
Kim Walker-Smith - Wild Heart (8/14)
Kim Walker-Smith is a worship artist from Jesus Culture. She came out with her debut solo album in 2008, and since then she's been releasing incredible songs like "Spirit Break Out," "Throne Room," and others. Her upcoming album Wild Heart is an album that was recorded in one night in a room full of people at the Cascade Theater in Redding, California. If you love live worship albums, mark this date down!
Lecrae - Restoration (8/21)
I'm pretty sure everyone has heard of Lecrae by now! You can argue this one all you want, but I think that Lecrae is one of the best Christian rappers of our time. He's had lots of No. 1 albums on the Billboard charts, so I'm excited to see how far his upcoming album Restoration will go. He recently released a new single called "Deep End," which deals with the heavy topic of racism. It's a song that we all need to listen to, and I believe that it will help us recognize the pain of racism that so many are facing right now. "Drown" has also released, featuring mainstream hitmaker, John Legend. If "Deep End" is just a preview of Lecrae's new album, I know that this will be a very impactful album.
NEEDTOBREATHE - Out Of Body (8/28)
Although Bo Rinehart has stepped away from NEEDTOBREATHE, the band is still going on, releasing more great music. The band is now made up of Bear Rinehart, Seth Bolt, and Josh Lovelace. The trio will be releasing their new album Out Of Body at the end of August. Their new song "Who Am I" has already been a big hit, so I'm sure their new album will be no different.
The Cashmans - Burn (8/28)
The Cashmans are a husband and wife duo, made up of Jonathan and Britney Cashman. They're originally from New England but now reside in Franklin, Tennessee with their daughter Everly. Their album, Burn, will be the duo's second full-length album, which features songs like "Burn," and "Only God Knows." If you're looking for a new independent band to listen to, check out their upcoming album!
Stryper - Even The Devil Believes (9/4)
If you've been listening to Christian music for a while, when you hear the word "Christian hard rock" you probably think of these guys. Stryper has been around since 1983, and they've released tons of albums. Their new record, Even The Devil Believes, is an eleven-song album, and Michael Sweet, Stryper's lead singer, says that it's one of his personal favorite Stryper albums.
Grace Chaves is a fan of all things Christian music, and is one of NRT's youngest writers. She's homeschooled, and loves concerts, Jesus, and songwriting.
