The recent success of Christian Television over the past few years has been amazing to see. Shows like The Chosen, House of David, A Week Away, and The Promised Land have all found their way into fans' hearts for sharing the Bible and faith in a fresh way that matches Hollywood in quality.
As much as I love all these shows, one of my favorite genres has always been fantasy. I enjoy the worlds these types of shows and movies explore, and the messages they often convey through the adventures they depict. The downside is finding fantasy that doesn't disrespect my faith and isn't too explicit for my younger siblings to see. Other than The Chronicles of Narnia and maybe The Lord of the Rings, is there anything else? Thankfully, with Angel Studio's new series, The Wingfeather Saga, the answer is yes.
Based on the hit book series by author and artist Andrew Peterson, the show grabs fans' attention with its beautiful animation, deep character stories, and fun, family-friendly adventures. The show, while not boldly Christian, is Christian-based, with hints of faith and redemption woven into the plot. The books have been favorites of mine since I was a kid. I even used to read them to my younger siblings before bed each night. The show continues with everything fans loved from the books in a new way that has become a favorite has well with watchers and my own family.
I had the honor of attending the Season 3 premiere of The Wingfeather Saga and interviewing one of the producers, Brock Sterners, about the amazing show. The premiere was probably the best one I've ever attended to. Set at The Canvans in Tennessee, the setup was all-out. The area was filled with decorations, food, and games that made it feel like you stepped into the world of the Igaby family. Lifesized character statues stood around as families took photos and enjoyed the fun in a wonderful way that I loved being a part of.
The show itself was amazing to watch, too. Season 3 has kicked off the most intense and adventurous season yet, with stakes rising as the show continues along the path we read in the books. It is both heartwarming and moving. Some moments had me on the edge of my seat, while others I couldn't help but laugh. The message the show carries is one of my favorite parts. I love the show's focus on family, standing up for what's right, faith, hope, and courage, which it's become known for.
The Wingfeather Saga has become so special that its impact has reached far and wide. For families looking for shows that fuel fantasy and adventure while also being family-friendly, this is the show. As Season 3 tells us, the story is far from over.
