My daughters are 18, 14 and 11 years old, and it has been one of my missions in sharing the biblical truth behind songs by Christians to help women who are bombarded with negative messages about their identity and purpose to know that their true identity and purpose is found in God. Being a Christian father of three young daughters, I've conducted behind the song devotionals with these ten female artists who have recently released songs that all reflect the yearning for Jesus to make us whole that I pray for my daughters to feel in their hearts as well. Enjoy these edifying songs by these godly women!

1. "No Better U" by V.Rose

This song is about being made in God's image and not seeking society's approval, but knowing that God created and loves us all as we are. That critical message is heard loud and clear in "No Better U." Don't let the world tell you who you are. A great takeaway message is found in the lyrics "You don't need to be what you're not, nobody to be better than you, so do what you do for God."

2. "I'm Not Ashamed" by Abigail Duhon

The song proclaims, "I will be Yours no matter what, no matter when, I will be Yours outside and in," which is a great example of Romans 1:16: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ." As this song and I'm Not Ashamed film challenges, are you ready to stand for Christ and sing loudly, "I am not ashamed because You've given me life, I am not afraid because You've opened my eyes." The song and film also cause my heart to sing along with this glorious promise in Revelation 22:20: "He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming quickly.' Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!"

3. "Have My Heart" by Brooke Robertson

I'm completely convicted by the strong lyrics from new artist Brooke Robertson, and I find immense comfort in this song filled with biblical truth. If you are looking for a firm foundation in your life, make these lyrics your personal prayer: "My heartbeat is a token of Your love for me, I'll never sing of Your love perfectly, You have my heart and You have the whole thing."

4. "Shatterproof" by Juliana Zobrist

The song is a great reminder of the kind of heart we should have both as people valued by God and as Christians who can communicate our value to other people. It's so easy to compare yourself to others and feel like God is blessing someone else with something that you want. We all need to learn that God has us exactly where we're supposed to be in this moment, even when we don't feel like we are good enough. This idea leads to the chorus of "Shatterproof," which says "you're not gonna shake me, I'm shatterproof!" The Good News of the Gospel which this song perfectly portrays it is that God accepts us no matter what we've done. A quote that connects to this song is "Comparison is the thief of joy," as stated by President Theodore Roosevelt. Through our identity in Christ, we can be free from the burden of guilt and shame and fear and live shatterproof as the song says: "God is my security, My identity, My authority, I'm shatterproof."

5. "Bruises" by Holly Starr

No matter where you are, no matter what you've done, God will find you if you call out to Him sincerely and ask Him for His grace. Even once we are saved, we sometimes beat ourselves up about failure and feel unworthy of God's love. That's the point: we aren't worthy. We can't earn grace. It is a gift of unmerited favor from God for His children. This song from Holly Starr is a great way to affirm to ourselves and each other that "in a world where the truth is confusing, you are more than your scars and your bruises."

6. "Famous For" by Alexis Slifer

Step out in faith and trust in God, even when you want to give up or can't see where you're going. We aren't the source of the power to overcome our challenges; God is our greater power source. In our weakness, God's strength is perfect! I'm completely convicted by the strong lyrics in "Famous For" and find immense comfort in this song filled with biblical truth. If you are looking for a firm foundation in your life, make these lyrics your personal prayer: "nothing changes, through all our heartaches, through all our mistakes, You reign above it all, above it all."

7. "Breathtakingly Beautiful" by The Rubyz
Read the devo here
As Christians, we are God's adopted sons and daughters. It doesn't matter what you look like, if you have Jesus on the inside. That's where we can find our true identities, in Him! As people experience the music and ministry of The Rubyz, I pray that they know the truth of their identities, that they were made in God's image and likeness. His Word tells us that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." Having three young daughters, this song is the type of message that I want them to hear: "You are anything but cliché, perfect in your own way, you are unmistakably, breathtakingly beautiful."

8. "Guard Your Heart" by 1GN

The critical message that we are created in God's image is heard loud and clear in this song. I am passionate about this topic. His Word tells us that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." This song is the type of message that I want my daughters to hear: "Know your worth 'cause you are priceless, more than gold, more than diamonds, be the light inside the dark, keep your faith and guard your heart." Check out the post-1GN solo releases, Against the Odds by Carmen Justice and Walk on Waves by Austin & Lindsey Adamec.

9. "Atmosphere" by LoveCollide
Read the devo here
"If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world," wrote C.S. Lewis in the book Mere Christianity. As believers in Christ, we know that we are made for God. We were all created to find our home in Him, as stated in the bridge of this song: "my mind is heaven bound." No matter what your worldview, we all need to remember that Earth isn't our permanent home and our freedom from the pain and suffering and heartache of this world will come when we enter the true rest that can only come from living eternally with Jesus Christ. Once you've accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, you actually gain comfort in knowing "I'm a citizen of a higher atmosphere." Watch out for a new album, Tired of Basic, from LoveCollide in 2018.

10. "Ignite" by Candice Russell

Growing up, I expected to find success in worldly pursuits and thought happiness and joy could be won in the game of life. Since I've come to be a follower of Jesus, I now have a better understanding that success for Christians is defined differently. Be encouraged by the light of Jesus shining in all of us based on our faith in Him, as this song by Candice Russell beautifully captures. Join in with Candice and pray: "I feel Your fire... Ignite!
