The boys are back—again.
Newsboys version 2.0 kept the musical franchise going strong with the critically acclaimed
Born Again. Now they're back for a second helping of their latest project with
Born Again: Miracles Edition, which includes four bumpin' remix songs, four all-new Newsboys tunes and all the songs from the
Born Again album.
Newsboys frontman Michael Tait took a few moments to chat with NRT's very own Bill Lurwick about the new edition of their neo-breakout album, and about their desire to do more than put on a good rock show.
The Born Again: Miracles Edition includes the whole Born Again CD, four remixes of songs from the album and four tracks not originally and the Born Again CD. Tell us about this project.
Remix records are always fun. There’s one new song called “Save Your Life,” which is a pretty killer song; I'm pretty excited about it. It should have been on the original
Born Again record, but we wrote it late. I’ve always liked remix records. We mix these long versions of songs you can put in the car and dance to and do aerobics to. I think radio is not big on playing that stuff, but I wish they were more because they’re fun.
It’s some of my favorite stuff. Very impressive.
One remix that’s very Michael Jackson is the “Born Again” one.
Tell me about the tour—the Born Again Experience tour with Kutless and Disciple.
Yeah. We’re excited about that. We had a blast at Winter Jam, but I'd been dying to do our own tour to promote the Born Again Experience. I call it an experience in the concert because I want people to bring their friends—their unsaved and hurting friends. I want to serve that city that night beyond just music--something special, something different. I’m proud of this show. Sometimes that sounds really corny, but I wish I could be out the in the audience watching the show. I really do. So much happens. You have to keep your eyes peeled.
There have been a couple of concerts I’ve been to in my life that were more than concerts. You mentioned Michael Jackson, Mike. I've got to admit, I saw Michael Jackson on the Bad Tour.
No way. I hate you.
It was an experience. It was like a night of entertainment, involvement and interaction, and what I’ve seen with you guys--what you’re doing on tour right now--it’s real similar. It’s not necessarily a concert. It’s really a lot of interaction. It’s a two-way street and that’s very purposeful. I love that you guys are doing that.
Thank you. I’ve done four interviews today so far and this is the best thing I’ve heard. Thank you so much, Bill. That makes my day. That’s what we try to do. We try to do our best to dig in, push in and make it something more than a bunch of guys coming on stage singing some songs. The power is in the message and the message is the Word. The Word is in the message, but at the same time God wants us to be diligent too and go beyond. That’s important. I’m glad you noticed that. That makes me happy.
The Born Again: Miracles Edition remix is out... and I know we’re probably shooting for sometime in 2012 for new music from you guys after this all winds down, right?
Sure. Looking forward to it. [Editor's Note: Their new worship album, God's Not Dead, is out November 15, 2011]
Still going strong, man. What do we call it? Newsboys 2.0--is that what we call it?
That’s right, 2.0.
I appreciate you spending time with us today, as usual. Blessings to you, man.
Thank you, Bill. By the way, you have my brother’s name. My brother’s name is Bill. He’s in Heaven now, but Bill Laverne.
You can’t go wrong with that.
That’s right, buddy.
