In early December 2024, I attended a fantastic concert featuring some of the best Christian pop artists: Tauren Wells, Jordan Feliz, Ryan Ellis, and Davies. The concert was part of The Takeback Tour, which stopped at Mosaic Church in Clarksville, Tennessee.
The tour started with a new artist and backup singer, Davies. Along with the major artists to come, he sang some songs that felt right at home. I loved hearing his debut single, "You Got Me." The song has a tremendous radio-sounding vibe that feels special and gets the crowd to sing along.
After Davies came up, it was time for pop artist Ryan Ellis. Ryan has been near the top of my list of artists I've wanted to see live for a while now. Even with my high expectations, Ryan exceeded them with his incredible set.
From leading the audience in worship to his songs "I Thank God" and "Heart of the Father" to performing a pop dance with "Eva Comin' Down," Ryan captured the audience's attention in the best way possible. My favorite moment of his set was when he gave a vulnerable performance of his song "Gonna Be Alright." This tune has comforted me during my struggles with depression, anxiety, heartbreak, and pain, bringing me solace in Jesus' arms. I'm thankful that God has brought me so far in my battles and that He is faithful every season.
Ryan had previously invited the audience to come up front, where he shared the gospel message through his testimony of how God has changed his life. Transitioning from his message to worship made for an even more beautiful moment as the congregation joined in singing the song and declaring the anthem. Even though Ryan didn't perform my favorite song, "Better Day," attending his live show was an experience I am grateful for. Next, one of my all-time favorites, Jordan Feliz, took the stage. I've had the honor of attending Jordan's concerts multiple times, and he has blown me away each time. This one was no exception, with an electrifying performance that reminded me why Jordan is one of my favorites.
He's not just a fantastic songwriting and pop artist but intentionally shares Jesus with others. I loved hearing him sing and dance along with songs like "The King Is Alive," "Next To Me," "Changed," "The River," and so many other upbeat masterpieces that Jordan is known for.
One of the standout moments was when Jordan took a moment to share the story behind his latest radio single, "Praise God For That." He explained how his recent struggles, including anxiety and a health scare that left him debilitated, inspired the song. It was honest and raw, a message I needed about God's healing and redeeming grace during our lowest moments. Jordan shared how, through the grace of God, therapy, and resting in God's identity, he could find freedom, which led him to write the song.
Driving back, my friend asked me, "Wow, that was so good. But is he even allowed to share that much?" I replied, “Yes, people needed that, and God uses the authenticity of that testimony to touch people and remind them of how faithful He has been in working powerfully in my life.”
I've liked Jordan since he released his debut single, "The River." Hearing him live again (I believe for the fifth time) was a blessing. It was fun to listen and watch listeners respond to old favorites and his amazing new songs. Whether it was powerful moments of worship during his song "Faith" or jumping with hands raised to "Jesus Is Coming Back," it was incredible to witness.
Last but certainly not least was Tauren Wells himself. After a stellar year of new music and hits, Tauren came out on stage swinging with energy as he and his team performed "Come Home." This was my third time seeing the artist perform, and I have always loved his sets and the way he brings his songs to life for the audience. As a fellow dancer, watching him and his team perform the choreography for songs like "Fake It" made my heart so happy.
Tauren continued to captivate the audience with his hit songs, "Hills & Valleys," "When We Pray," "Known," and "Until Grace," which were special to hear. Along with those songs, Tauren turned his set into a worshipful moment as he sang his recent single "Making Room." I wasn't sure if Tauren would perform this on the tour, but I'm so glad he did.
"Making Room" is a beautiful and heartfelt song of surrender, inviting Jesus to come and have His way. Tauren also led one of my favorite songs, "Famous For." This song has meant so much to millions, including myself. Ever since I learned about it from the talented writer and artist Alexis Slifer, I have been genuinely amazed by what God has accomplished with the song through Tauren Wells. A pivotal moment of faith in the room again directed our hearts to Jesus.
If you've followed Tauren recently, you probably know he is also a pastor. During his set, he, of course, took time to not just talk with the audience but also speak God's truth and encourage listeners. I love how Tauren balances being an artist and pastor as God uses him. Tauren closed his set for the night with his breakout hit, "Take It All Back."
Though I sincerely hoped to hear the Skillet version, I was more than satisfied and jumped along to this powerful song. It was a great way to end the night and declare my stand on God's truth against the attacks and lies of the enemy.
However, before the show closed, Tauren surprised us by singing one last song with Ryan Ellis: "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays." The song was a nice boost of Christmas joy, and we left the event with stirred hope in Jesus and dancing along to the fantastic songs stuck in our heads from the night.
