Music is most often the conduit that helps people draw closer to their heavenly father. And few artists are more gifted in facilitating that connection than Jaime Jamgochian. It's her ability to help others draw closer to God—whether in a Sunday morning worship service or driving alone to work on a Monday—that has made Jaime one of Christian music's most acclaimed new artists. Her debut, Reason to Live, on the Centricity Music label, spawned the modern classic, "Hear My Worship."
Having come to Christ during her college years, Jaime admits she made her share of mistakes before becoming a believer. And those moments have made her better equipped to minister to young girls struggling through some of the same issues.
Jaime's new song, "Beautiful Story," from her album All Things, is breathtaking, with the song's worshipful chorus and soaring bridge. “Beautiful Story” celebrates the healing Jaime received following a debilitating battle with Lyme disease. Christian radio stations are now playing it and churches are starting to incorporate it into their Sunday morning praise and worship sets. I had the great opportunity to interview Jaime about her new song.
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
"Beautiful Story" is my heart's anthem. I remember where I was standing when I first heard it. I was in the first row of my church (I’m on the pastoral staff at The Belonging Co. in Nashville); it’s a beautiful church reaching so many people. We used to meet on Tuesday nights as we ministered to the artist community.
Mia Fieldes is one of our worship leaders and an incredible songwriter. When she sang the song's chorus, it resonated so strongly with me. I had started not feeling well and had health challenges at the time. At the end of 2018, I was hit with severe headaches.
After so many prayers and doctor visits, I learned I had a Lyme disease infection that had become neurological. I had to stop working and moved out of my home to live with my parents. It was a humbling and hard season. Before I had the diagnosis, I was often anxious. But, this song encouraged me.
Two years later, after one of the lowest points of my life, I released "Beautiful Story" on my new album, All Things. Today, after specialized treatments and lots of prayers, I'm beyond excited to have full life and healing and to be releasing music again—something I had given up on.
How did He work those few hard years for good? I think God knew in hindsight that this song was going to carry me through some of the darkest days that I’ve walked through with Him. In learning about perseverance, long-suffering, and trusting Him, even when my journey and my path doesn’t look like what I thought it would, how do I worship Him from that place? This song expresses my deepest feelings in prayer: I would've lost heart had I not believed/You know all the plans You had for me.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Romans 8:28(VOICE): “We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.”
Psalm 30:11-12(VOICE): “You did it: You turned my deepest pains into joyful dancing; You stripped off my dark clothing and covered me with joyful light. You have restored my honor. My heart is ready to explode, erupt in new songs! It's impossible to keep quiet! Eternal One, my God, my Life-Giver, I will thank You forever.”
1 John 3:1(NLT): "See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don't recognize that we are God's children because they don't know Him."
2 Corinthians 5:17(NKJV): "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
What is the takeaway message?
Moving back to Boston and being taken care of by my parents was such a humbling experience at my age. My body shut down and it brought me to a dark place. God is so good. He brought me to a place where I received treatment and I’m on the other side of the diagnosis.
I pray this song reaches other people who might be wading through a valley like I was. I learned about perseverance, choosing joy through long-suffering. I now have a whole new outlook on fully living life. God does promise to work all things for our good.
Truly, this song is a reminder that if it’s not good, it’s not done yet. We have the victory and we overcome in Jesus. "Beautiful Story" is my heart's anthem, a reminder to not get stuck in my current chapter. All the while, God is orchestrating the good, which ties into the album: all things for my good.
In my lowest moments, I was doubting and frustrated with God. When I got sick, I was disappointed in Him. I thought I gave up a lot. But, it’s nothing compared to what Jesus gave up for us. This song gave me an anchor of hope in my darkest days.
Lyrics
We just wanna know You
We just wanna know You all
So come, come, come
I would've lost heart had I not believed
You know all the plans You had for me I would've lost heart had I not resolved
There is no good thing that You withhold
You write a beautiful story
You write a beautiful story
From glory to glory I believe
You write a beautiful story
You write a beautiful story
Beginning to ending and in between I would've let go had you not reached out
And silenced all my doubt with hope
You pull me close and tell my heart to rest
'Cause You know what is best, yes
And You're not done yet
You write a beautiful story
You write a beautiful story
From glory to glory I believe
You write a beautiful story
You write a beautiful story
Beginning to ending and in between All the while you keep saying
Trust that I am orchestrating
Everything for good All the while you keep saying
Trust that I am custom making
Everything for good
You work all things together for good
All things together for good
All things together for good
Like You said You would You work all things together for good
All things together for good
All things together for good
Like You said You would You write a beautiful story
You write a beautiful story
From glory to glory I believe, oh yeah
You write a beautiful story
You write a beautiful story
Beginning to ending and in between You work all things together for good
All things together for good
All things together for good
Like You said You would You work all things together for good
All things together for good
All things together for good
Like You said You would Just like You said You would
You're not done yet
I wanna repeat what You said
You made a way where there is no way All the while you keep saying
Trust that I am orchestrating
Everything for good
All the while you keep saying
Trust that I am custom making
Everything for good, yes oh yes All the while you keep saying
Trust that I am orchestrating
Everything for good, for good, for good, for good
All the while you keep saying
Trust that I am custom making
Everything for good
You are, You are You work all things together for good
All things together for good
All things together for good
Like You said You would, You would
You work all things together for good
All things together for good
All things together for good
Like You said You would You write a beautiful story
You write a beautiful story
From glory to glory I believe
You write a beautiful story
You write a beautiful story
Beginning to ending and in between
Closing Thoughts
Canadian author and blogger Ann Voskamp shares, “This is the thing. When I see my brokenness, it whispers that I don’t belong. And then scarred, rejected God says, ‘Come with Me, My beloved.’” God's hope will turn whatever you are going through into something different for His glory.
The picture of God's unconditional love for us after all that we've done wrong is profoundly captured in "Beautiful Story." God wants us to know He's faithful to complete what's He's started in all of us who have put our hope and trust in Jesus. This song is a beautiful way to express our devotion. It gives us hope and inspiration as God's children.
For me, songs like "Beautiful Story" provide opportunities for God to whisper my identity; not found in what I do or don't do, but in who I am, more importantly, to whom I belong. I have three young daughters and I can't help but get emotional when I listen to this song. This song has many layers, and I relate to the message that God created us to have value. I look at my daughters and I hope I'm communicating to each of my girls that they're both beautiful and valuable. They're blessings to me.
I'm extremely moved by the passion behind the lyrics, speaking of how we think we're never good enough. Yet, Jesus saw something beautiful in us worth dying for. This song and the biblical truth behind it is such an encouraging reminder of God's sovereignty: that He's been, is, and always will be there with us.
We can face our daily battles with more courage and strength because we know that whatever the outcome, He's there for us. It's based on His promise in Romans 8:28: "God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." This is a truth for believers to cling to. We're not supposed to just hope it is true or turn to the Lord as only our last resort, but daily be washed by the truth of the Word of God.
This song represents the victory that we have over our battles before we even know the earthly outcome. We trust that God goes before us and wins. Think about the type of faith we're called to have as believers. It's described as the faith of a mustard seed. This song is a faith statement. Righteousness was accredited to God's servant Abraham for his faith. We need to have the faith that the Bible describes in Hebrews 11:1 (NIV): "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
If God is with us, we can endure anything. This song is about submitting our worries, anxieties, and stress to God. So, let Him be your guide. God wants to walk beside you. And, He wants us to be bold and unafraid by acknowledging that, "You work all things together for good/All things together for good/All things together for good/Like You said You would." Amen to that.
