Each week, dozens of albums, EPs, and singles are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify to listen to all the latest.
Hulvey - "This Pain We Feel."
The latest addition to the Reach Records roster, Hulvey created this track from time of self-reflection related to the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. He adds commentary from race lines and why tragedy occurs far too often resulting in death. He calls the body of Christ to stand up for each other, regardless of color, bonding as brothers and sisters hand-in-hand.
Rhyan Lamar feat. Canon, Byron Juane, nobigdyl., Kris Noel, John Givez, Lil Sharp and Jack Red - "Relief"
The track opens with the beautiful harmonizing of a choir followed by a rapid-fire entry from Canon. Violin strings are strummed throughout the track adding to its overall beauty. The eight artists collectively stamp hip-hop and soul in their purest forms throughout. Listeners are forced to either clap their hands or nod their heads while appreciating the art.
Fee-Lo x Dee Black - Pleasant Hill EP
Like a city on a hill, Fee-Lo and Dee Black collectively support encouragement through trials and tribulations finding heaven as an end goal. The duo discusses relevant issues like depression, suicide, and racism. The EP portrays a mindset to rise above sin nature towards godly goals. The first and only single released last week, "Church Boy" feat. Jered Sanders is the standout track. The soulful sounds mixed with the hard-hitting rhymes create a perfect blend of sounds.
