New Centricity band For All Seasons is my top new band in the past couple of years. I greatly enjoyed their debut singles "Higher," "No Other," and "Bigger Than," from their album, Clarity. The California-based band is comprised of Emily Hamilton (lead vocals, guitars, keys), Johnny Hamilton (drums), Jeff Luckey (guitars, keys, vocals), and Randy Charlson (bass, guitars).

Emily has pure, strong vocals that remind me of CCM superstars Christy Nockels and Plumb. I named her one of my top 10 female vocalists of the past year. For All Seasons' mission is to truly live out a faith journey. Like Abraham and Sarah in the Bible, live in faith with hopeful expectations.

The band recently released & Side A EP, a collection consisting of six new songs. For All Seasons are following God's leading in their lives, without always knowing where they're going to next. I love the reflective and reverent feel of the band's new EP. And Emily's standout vocal style has a way of inviting me in to worship Jesus with her. I had the chance to interview Emily about All For Seasons' catchy single, "Every Good Thing."

Please tell me the personal story behind this song.

"Every Good Thing" has a really cool story, as it all happened over a two-day period during a co-writing session. As a band, we feel like we're always in a season of asking, "What is happening?", "Can we keep going?", and "Where is money coming from?". All these practical things.

We were in a season of feeling discouraged, really questioning what we were doing and what God was doing in our lives. We were confused and wondering if we would be able to continue as a band. We had coffee with another artist, telling our story. We were given an encouraging word. And then we heard God saying, "Trust the process. I'm taking care of you."

We felt so seen by the Lord. And within that day, we saw provision from Him. God provides. We had been blessed by a random gift that we didn't expect. Every good thing we have is from the Lord. But, we have to choose to see and pursue and worship Him.

Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?

Psalm 55:22 (NIV): "Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken."

James 1:17 (NIV): "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

James 1:2-4 (NIV): "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."

Isaiah 26:3 (NLV): "You will keep the man in perfect peace whose mind is kept on You, because he trusts in You."

Matthew 6:31-34 (VOICE): "So do not consume yourselves with questions: What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear? Outsiders make themselves frantic over such questions; they don't realize that your heavenly Father knows exactly what you need. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and then all these things will be given to you too. So do not worry about tomorrow. Let tomorrow worry about itself, living faithfully is a large enough task for today."

Hebrews 4:15-16 (NKJV): "For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV): "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV): "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart."

Romans 8:28 (VOICE): "We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan."

Hebrews 11:1 (NLT): "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see."

Philippians 4:6 (VOICE): "Don't be anxious about things; instead, pray. Pray about everything. He longs to hear your requests, so talk to God about your needs and be thankful for what has come."

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV): "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

What is the takeaway message?

That unexpected gift showed us that God really does take care of us. We had the co-writing session after we had been blessed. And we knew we needed to write a song about how God provides for us. It's sometimes so easy to explain away the blessings of God rather than give Him the glory.

God uses circumstances and relationships to make things happen. I don't want to attribute His blessings to anything other than Him. We want this song to capture that sentiment and to provide the freedom that comes from trusting God and proclaiming His greatness. Pause and proclaim what He's doing in your life. God is the giver of all good things.

It's not random. God makes it happen. We can rest in that and celebrate that. With our music, we want people to understand what it is that we're writing about and how these lyrics were created to call them into something deeper with the Lord. Diving into and writing about some of these themes has been good, kind of challenging, figuring out how to give people words for seasons we all walk through.

Lyrics

Looking at my life
Every low and every high
Let me count the ways
You’ve shown up in perfect time
Every minute that You’ve given
Every promise You provide
You won’t leave my side

This is who You are
Who You are, who You are
Faithful Father
You have shown me
Time and time again
You have been closer than
Any need that could surround me

I know there’s one thing always true
If it’s a good thing, ya that’s You
I don’t have to explain it
Doesn’t have to be complicated
Every good thing comes from You

Every good thing, every good thing
Every good thing, every good thing
Every good thing, every good thing
Every good thing, every good thing

Though my heart may try
To look past the place I’m in
Help me choose to rest
And enjoy Your promises
In the struggle, in the pressure
There is blessing in the midst
Where Your presence is

This is who You are
Who You are, who You are
Faithful Father
You have shown me
Time and time again
You have been closer than
Any need that could surround me

I know there’s one thing always true
If it’s a good thing, ya that’s You
I don’t have to explain it
Doesn’t have to be complicated
Every good thing comes from You

Every good thing, every good thing
Every good thing, every good thing
Every good thing, every good thing
Every good thing, every good thing

This is who You are
Who You are, who You are
Faithful Father
You have shown me
Time and time again
You have been closer than
Any need that could surround me

I know there’s one thing always true
If it’s a good thing, ya that’s You
I don’t have to explain it
Doesn’t have to be complicated
Every good thing comes from You

I know there’s one thing always true
If it’s a good thing, ya that’s You
I don’t have to explain it
Doesn’t have to be complicated
Every good thing comes from You

Every good thing, every good thing
Every good thing, every good thing
Every good thing, every good thing
Every good thing, every good thing

Closing Thoughts

"Every Good Thing" is all about finding our true identity in Christ. He is the answer. We can't know everything and we're not in control. But trusting God gives us assurance that we don't have to be afraid. God will be there to pick us up when we fall.

The challenge for me when I listen to this song is picking an area of my life that I've been trying to control. And instead of me trying to control it,  I can cry out to Jesus for help. Give Him my hope. Give Him my trust. We make mistakes. That's a truth. To wipe the slate clean, all you need to do is to ask God for forgiveness.

He doesn't make bad things happen to us. God came to give us life and to live with Him eternally. God is bigger than any calamity that we experience in this world.

The book of James has many inspirational words about trials. I find comfort in James 1:2-4 (NKJV): "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."

Don't wallow in self-pity and misery. Live each day knowing that despite your circumstances, God has a plan for "those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28). We really bring nothing to the table.

Being a Christian means that we walk by faith, not by sight. Faith requires people to rely on the unseen. We walk by faith every day. The beauty of walking by faith and not by sight is that we can learn to fully trust God with our lives. Jesus is "the Good News," the miracle that can hold us together when we have struggles.

As Jesus followers, we know that we can trust God's Word. We're a work in progress. Spend time with God, and let Him redeem and restore you. You're not at the end of your story. God's still writing your redemption story. God wants you to know that He's faithful to complete what He's started in those who've put their hope and trust in Jesus for salvation.

Things don't go as we want or even how we pray for God to work in our lives. God wants you to read his Word every day.  He wants to remind you daily to not to be afraid.

Without faith, it's impossible to please God. Sometimes we can try to know everything. God tells us in the Bible that with faith, we can do anything in Christ. The key as Jesus follower is to walk by faith. Let God guide your daily walk with prayer and His infallible Word, the Bible.

I sing "Every Good Thing" to God with my heart and know for a fact, "Though my heart may try to look past the place I'm in/Help me choose to rest and enjoy Your promises/In the struggle, in the pressure/There is blessing in the midst where Your presence is." Amen to that.
