Valentine's Day is around the corner, and what says "I love you" better than a great song? Throughout the years, artists have released tracks that warm the heart and make you think of someone special. Here are five throwback songs that can be played to tell your person that they are loved.
5. "Lemonade" by Chris Rice Chris Rice is a master songwriter, and his talent is whimsically displayed on the track "Lemonade" from his 2007 album What A Heart Is Beating For. With imagery depicting the action of falling in love to be like that of a sweet, refreshing drink of lemonade, Rice brings a very tangible and relatable viewpoint to romance. It's a fun and upbeat twist on the tender times that love can bring.
4. "As Long As Our Hearts Are Beating" by Jenny & Tyler
Sometimes simple is better, and Jenny & Tyler's "As Long As Our Hearts Are Beating" encompasses that simplicity. Found on their 2010 album Faint Not, the instrumentation of this song, while wonderful, takes a slight back seat to the overwhelmingly beautiful harmonies done by the husband and wife duo. Whether it's being used for a wedding day soundtrack, or as an expression of love to a partner, it is the perfect song for any romantic occasion.
3. "Last Flight Out" by Plus One Plus One's musical catalogue is filled with many love songs, but "Last Flight Out," which is on their 2000 debut release The Promise, has a distinctive sound compared to ones found in the rest of their discography. The song has a darker undertone than any other love song they recorded, and speaks about the vulnerable subject of being open and yourself in front of someone you love. It's quite the emotional tune, but enjoyable regardless.
2. "Godsend" by DC Talk
On their last studio release Supernatural, Christian music legends DC Talk performed the romantic song "Godsend," expressing the idea of being blessed by a partner and how their love was orchestrated by God. Just like the rest of the tracks on Supernatural, there's a turn-of-the-century sound to "Godsend," but that is what makes it a perfect moment in the album, and a unique song to share with a loved one.
1. "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer
This Sixpence None the Richer song not only became widely popular in the Christian industry, but it also struck gold in the secular market as well. Released on their 1997 self-titled album, the lyrics and instrumentation of "Kiss Me" creates a dreamy atmosphere that brings on the feelings of love for anyone who listens to it. The words are poetic yet fun, and the tune is poppy and light. It is the epitome of a perfect love song.
Jessi Zilka owns a small record store in Florida. She loves music more than anything in this world (except Jesus, of course). If she's not listening to music or working at her store, she's usually out record hunting, going to Disney World, spending time with her husband, hanging out with family or friends, catching up on a favorite TV show, or curling up on the couch and watching a movie.
