The Jim Brady Trio has transitioned into a duet. Jim Brady, and his wife, Melissa, continue where the trio left off: promoting Hope Keeps Writing The Song, their most recent release. We had the opportunity to speak with the duo about their new album, song by song.
1. "Livin’ In The Rhythm"
A great song, written and sent to us by legendary writers Bill Gaither and Larry Gatlin. So, we have a great lyric with beautiful chords and melodies, giving us great opportunity to enjoy the harmonies of this song.
2. "Hope Keeps Writing The Song"
"Hope Keeps Writing The Song" gives a snapshot of our life on the road and, because it is truly the love and hope of Jesus that brings encouragement, is the soundtrack of our lives.
3. "Season When God Breaks Through"
This song came from a conversation between Bill Gaither and Buck Rambo. Shortly before Buck went to Heaven, Bill visited him and afterwards realized they hadn’t talked about things like awards, songs or sold out crowds. They talked about the seasons when God came through in their lives. This is what became the inspiration for this tune.
4. "Lost"
"Lost" is meant to the listener on a journey. In the beginning, we're lost in the brokenness of being without Christ ,and by the time we get to the end of the song, we’re lost in the joy and wonder that’s found in His love. It’s one of the most unique spins on a lyric we've ever done.
5. "You Gotta Have A Song"
We've often heard our former partner in crime, Layke Jones, whistle, which he does quite well. So, one day, after hearing Layke whistling on the tour bus, Jim decided to write a song that would include a whistling feature just for Layke. It's been quite the surprise for the crowds, making it a fun song to sing.
6. "Follow Me To The Cross"
Before coming to Christ, Melissa's father, Jack, was a rock musician, a heroin addict, and a drug dealer. Her mother gave her heart to Jesus and, for three and a half years, faithfully prayed for Jack to give his heart to Christ. One night, he came home from playing the bar, woke her up in the middle of the night and asked her to help him find the same peace she had. They knelt by their bed and she led him to Christ. "Follow Me To The Cross" is their story of faith in song and encourages us all to invite others to the cross.
7. "I Got Out"
Since coming together, we've experienced some of the most rewarding and the most difficult times of our lives. Through it all, God remained faithful, and we’ve gotten to the other side of the pain to find that we're stronger. So, when Melissa was listening to the radio and heard "I Got Out," she felt like she just had to sing it. Simply put, it's our testimony.
8. "I See A Crimson Steam"
This piece is a beautiful hymn, written in the 1800s, that Bill Gaither brought to us. He arranged it in a very specific way, featuring a unique type of harmony on the first verse and chorus, making it a pleasure to learn and sing.
9. "The Little Things"
Jim wrote this song as a reminder that the seemingly little things, the things that can’t be bought or sold, like telling the truth, being a good person, or being there for someone, are what make a difference in the world.
10. "What A Beautiful Name"
This Hillsong-penned-tune is an anthem of praise to God and a joy to sing. What better way to praise Him than by singing about the beauty of His name and the power of His might.
11. "I Know Him Better Now
One of the best things about going through something difficult and getting to the other side of it, is that when hardship comes our way again, and it will, we can look back at the ways God brought us through and be encouraged that He’ll bring us through again. It’s the hardships that bring us closer to God and when they come around again, we can say, "we know him better now."
12. "When It Rains"
Some days, you can look up into a rainy sky, and see rays of sunlight peeking out from behind the darkened, rain-soaked clouds. This song is kind of like those rays of sunlight. A reminder that it won’t always rain.
