Albums are becoming passé. They’re not gone, but singles and EPs are the new trend. Artists and bands release new music, even if there isn’t an album for months down the road—if it all. Today, many music fans prefer to stream (that is, Apple Music and Spotify) instead of buying the full album or the individual song. Whatever--or however--you listen to music, we have nine songs that have recently come out that you must stream or buy today.
“The Breakup Song” by Francesca Battistelli
Francesca takes a different approach with, "The Break Up Song." The piece has an R&B swing feel, similar to Kelly Clarkson's 2017 single, "Move You." While Battistelli has switched gears, or should I say, refined her sound, her beautiful vocals continue to be vibrant and familiar. "The Break Up Song" gets a gold star.
“joy.” by for KING & COUNTRY for KING & COUNTRY has become one of CCM’s favorite bands. These two brothers know how to make quality music. The band’s new single, “joy.,” has already become a chart topper. Expect their third album to drop this year.
“Remember to Remember” by Steven Curtis Chapman
This song is the first single Steven Curtis Chapman has released in almost two years. It’s inspired by the singer’s 2017 memoir, Between Heaven & the Real World. This finger snapper gives proof that Chapman can still jam with the best of them and his voice sounds better than ever. The fact that the song is about Jesus is an added benefit.
“Shattered” by Blanca Blanca delivers a heartfelt ballad that gently moves the listener into the arms of Jesus. If you like this song, listen to Tricia Brock’s “This I Know.” Both songs are tearjerkers, but the message of overcoming is loud and clear in the lyrics.
“The Grey” by Thrice
Sometimes the rocking artistry of Thrice can fall under the radar. However, the band’s latest song, “The Grey” is turning heads. Besides getting lost in its intense sound, “The Grey” is great for an intense workout.
“Let Go” by Hillsong Young and Free
This new single paves the way for Hillsong Young and Free's third studio album coming out later this month. The band pays more attention to the vocals and the song’s reverent message, while still maintaining the group’s trademark electronic sound.
“Bullets” by NEEDTOBREATHE NEEDTOBREATHE’s latest effort would be a great track for a modern day western flick. The southern style “Bullets” is definitely a CCM standout—and future hit. But, most NEEDTOBREATHE songs are CCM standouts. “Bullets” is from the band’s upcoming collection of songs, Forever On Your Side (Niles City Sound Sessions).
“Till I Found You” by Phil Wickham
“Till I Found You” is a love song of gratitude. Phil Wickham thanks the Lord for taking control of his messed up life. “Count all the days/I’m chasing after what won't last/I’m done with building these castles that crumble like sand.” The lyrics can be summed up into one line: “I’m nothing without you.” With the exception of a couple of reverent lines, this soothing R&B ballad could pass as a love song for a husband or wife. So, it can be used for Sunday morning worship, or a tender moment on a couple’s anniversary.
“Wait It Out” by Jamie Grace Jamie Grace is not afraid to sing mainstream music. Her new song, “Wait It Out” sounds like something you’d hear on a Beyoncé album. On her Facebook page, Grace says that “Wait It Out” is an anthem for girls: “It’s okay to wait on the guy God has for you.” Anyone remember Beyoncé’s girl anthem, “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”? I thought so.
