Merch is a big part of the fan experience in music. To purchase a band's merch is to say that not only you like their music, but you're willing to be a part of their ministry by being a billboard for them. Whether you're covering your walls, your body or your belongings with band-themed imagery, you're making a statement as to where your loyalties lie.
The problem in today's merch market is that you're pretty much looking at the same kinds of things at every table: shirts, sweatshirts, hats, beanies, stickers and posters. Unless you've benefitted from the forward-thinking merch of people like for KING & COUNTRY (with their special coffee roast) or David Crowder's plush arctic foxes, you're probably wanting more from today's merch market.
Fear not! The NewReleaseToday staff brainstormed some ideas that will make you more likely to throw your debit card on the table and say, "I'll take one of everything!" Here are 10 ideas for various artists that need to happen now:
Replica Watches
1. Actual shields of the for KING & COUNTRY logo
Yes, we singled out fK&C for being merch innovators, but why stop now? Think of all the kids (and Renaissance Faire adults) who will grab this sucker and storm the castle! Oh so priceless!
2. The Skillet... skillet
We're kind of amazed this hasn't happened yet. The band got its name from the fact that the original members were pulled from other bands and mixed together--kind of like in a Skillet. What longtime rock fan wouldn't want to make an omelet in this bad boy?
3. Tait: The Fragrance
Newsboys frontman Michael Tait is known not just for his excellent vocals and entertaining stage presence, but also for his olfactory prowess. A thick cloud of fragrance follows Tait wherever he may go, and to celebrate this fact, Tait needs to release his own signature cologne. No need for a flashy name; Tait: The Fragrance shall suffice.
4. dcTalk 'In the Light' flashlight
Speaking of Tait, when he goes on that next dcTalk cruise (or, hopefully, a new tour on land), he and TobyMac and Kevin Max will think of the kids their fans will bring to the shows. With this kid-friendly flashlight, all ages will be able to be "In the Light." Eat that, cell phone lights!
5. Zach Williams' 'Washed Clean' Soap
The first in a series based on his hit songs, the Zach Williams soap will make you feel as good as an old church choir down in your soul. Coming soon: "Chain Breaker" bolt cutters!
6. Stars Go Dim... in your room!

Who remembers those glow in the dark stars that shine real nice when you turn your lights off--for about five minutes? Now, whenever YOUR stars go dim, you can think about Stars Go Dim!
7. Colton Dixon wigs
You want Colton's signature hairdo? Is hair gel, AquaNet or male pattern baldness letting you down? Plop down $49.99 and go home with a phenomenally accurate replica wig, and you'll be "Limitless" in your quest to "Echo" this look!
8. Tenth Avenue North sign
It'll be "By Your Side," wherever you go. And when you don't catch a fish at the lake, it makes for a nice trophy picture! Don't worry, government types: These are replicas!
9. Hawk Nelson letterman's jacket
I mean, there's no obvious tie to their music from this, but it would still be super cool.
10. Matthew West's box of broken things
Every box is a little bit different! Some of them have broken glass inside, others, pottery. Special collector's item boxes have broken coffee cups used by Matthew West in them. Whatever's inside, you can bet these broken things will remind you of the message of the song "Broken Things."
