Urban Rescue's City Sessions (Live in Los Angeles) captures the group's artful approach to live worship in recorded from. More than perhaps ever before, City Sessions displays Urban Rescue's combination of innovative, experimental musical textures and timeless lyrical truths that manage to avoid cliché and drive straight to the heart.
Urban Rescue walked us through the truth behind each track on the seven song EP.
"Freedom"
We wanted to start City Sessions off with this anthemic truth because at the heart of Urban Rescue, our desire is see people, families and communities around set free! In 2 Corinthians 3:17 Paul tells the Church in Corinth, "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." That means we have a spiritual way out from the messages of culture. In this moment, we all have the opportunity to find contentment, freedom and peace from the soundbites of fear that the world tells us otherwise.
"Holy Ground"
From Charlottesville to Houston, it's clear we live in a broken world. Things are not as they should be. Still we believe that from the ashes comes revival fire. The Spirit of God lives inside us, which means wherever we go we carry the holiness of God with us. Through the lens of heaven, we don't stand not hopeless shattered pieces, but on holy ground.
"Never Stop"
God's love for stops at nothing. David says it best in Psalm 23: "God, my shepherd! I don't need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I'm not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd's crook makes me feel secure.... Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life..."
"Up from the Ashes"
Maybe you're in the fire right now. Maybe you just got out of the fire, but you're praying, longing and waiting in the ashes--wondering why. We wrote this song to remind you that it's up from the ashes that God is doing his most beautiful work. It's in these times that God wants your heart. His desire is to spring up like a deep well from within you, starting from the inside. Once He has your heart, He has it all.
"Unconditional"
Culture tells us that if we're smart enough, funny enough, sexy enough, cool enough, more popular, more famous, more wealthy--then you're actually lovable. But God doesn't work like that. God says "I love you just as you are." You are His "imago dei," or image. That means no matter what you've done, God will not love you any more or any less than He does in the very moment.
"The Reason"
How many times have we missed the simple joy of being alive? Sometimes we chase after the future so hard that we forget the beauty of the present.
"Walls"
We build walls all around us. We try to keep what we don't know, what's uncomfortable and unfamiliar, at a distance. We build borders and put people into categories that are different from us. But Galatians 3:28 is crystal clear: "In Christ's family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ."
Fronted by Jordan Frye, Urban Rescue is on a mission to inspire the next generation of believers to see their churches, communities, and cities awakened by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. With an untamed passion for worship emerging from pain and trials, the band has a heart to see broken cities and lives restored.
