First, Natasha Owensmade it through the pain and turmoil of loss. Then she turned her eyes to healing, declaring no one but Jesus could bring about lasting restoration. Now, she's taking her rescue and healing and sharing about a God whose blessings go far beyond our time of need.
With her new single, "I Am Loved," Owens shares how we are all rescued, healed and sublimely blessed as more than conquerors through Jesus.
I asked Owens nine questions, where she updates us on her extremely busy last few years, and shares about the journey of discovering God's agape love--which captivates her attention and new music's focus.
1. You've been busy touring! What has life been like the last couple of years?
Life has been hectic. It has been the busiest years of my life but also the most rewarding. We have seen so many awesome God moments out on the road, moments where you know God is in them with His perfect timing, moments that reiterate that we are doing what God has called us to do. That is a peaceful feeling when you know you are in God's will.
2. What have you learned most powerfully while out on the road?
That on my weakest days, God shows up more powerfully than most days. It's on the days that I get so tired and weak and I just want to go home that He does something that causes me to say, "This is why we do what we do." God is so amazing and His time is always perfect!
3. The new single is "I Am Loved"--tell us about the message in this song and what inspired you to write it?
We get so swept away with the troubles and complications in our lives that it's easy for negativity to come in. Once negativity enters into our mind, then our speech is soon to follow. One word, whether it be positive or negative, can change our mood, our mind and how we feel about the day. The scripture tells us that we have the power of life and death in our tongue. We have to change our speech. We have to speak life into our daily situations. We have to declare statements like "I Am Loved" and "I am a child of the King". Positive statements like "I am free and saved by the power of His name." We are all in a daily war of our mind. It's a battlefield of our mind. Pour positive in and watch how our feelings change from fear and doubt to confidence and peace.
4. Talk about the importance of embracing the truth that we are loved!
Growing up in church, I thought I had an understanding of God's love for us; boy, was I wrong. We overcomplicate a very simple thought. We think that we have to do good works to make Him love us more. Or when we mess up, we think, "How can God possibly love me anymore?"
God laid upon my heart one week, while I was preparing for praise and worship, to do a study on the different types of love. There is brotherly love, romantic love, motherly love and agape love. I had heard about agape love, but had never studied it. Agape love is the most powerful love there is. It's God's love for us. It is the purest form of love. Completely selfless. Loving and expecting nothing in return.
He died for us on the cross hoping we would love Him but not expecting anything in return. I left that study changed. His love for us is so simple. There is nothing we can do to cause Him to love us any less or more than He already does. We can't buy His love with good works, nor can we disappoint Him so much that He loves us less. We are loved!
5. This is the first single we've received from you since your last album. Is more music coming, and when?
The new album is finished and ready for launch. In that album, there are more singles ready to go.
6. What does spring and summer look like for you?
Spring and summer are going to be packed with touring. I am also going to be recording a Christmas CD this summer that will launch in the fall.
7. What is God teaching you right now, and what are you most excited about?
He is teaching me to rest in Him. In the midst of all the chaos, that there can be a peace and a rest in Him. But I have to be willing to give it all to Him.
8. How can people be praying for you?
We are on the front lines of ministry. The enemy does not like that. Pray for strength and protection. Pray that a covering of protection be upon our kids and family back home.
9. Anything else you want to add?
Thank you guys for helping me to get my ministry out there. I hope you will be blessed by "I Am Loved," and that it will be an anthem that you declare into your life--a tool in your spiritual warfare toolbox.
