Yonette Odessa's latest project, The Climb, released Jan. 27, 2017, showcasing the Guyanan-born singer-songwriter's powerful vocals and passionate lyrics. In a separate interview, we got to know the artist--who's on our Indie Artist Watch this month--but in this piece, we asked Odessa to share just a little bit of the heart behind each of The Climb's 12 tracks.

"We're all on this journey called 'life.' While it isn't an easy one, God enables us to get to our destination."

"It doesn't matter how much we change throughout the course of our lives. The one thing that will remain is the word of God over our lives."

"When life throws all that it can at you, the safest place to run to is Jesus. Why? Because he has the remedy for any situation."

"When we remove ourselves out of the equation and allow God to take full control of every aspect of our lives, that's when we see His true power."

"If we can only open up our hearts and our eyes we'll quickly realize that the one who has paid the ultimate price for our lives will never change how He feels about us. God asked the question, 'What more can I do to show and prove my love?' He already paid it all, but we can't see, feel or even believe that until we recognize the need for a Savior."

9. "Never Let Go"
"On this journey, they'll be times when we want to give up on everything, even God. But this is a declaration that I won't let go of Him because He has never let go of me."
 
10. "Sweet Love"
Above every kind of love we will ever experience, it's safe to say that the love that Jesus has for us has no conditions and that's what makes it sweet."

11. "Alright"
"Once you have Jesus in your corner, it doesn't matter what happens during the course of our lives. We can hold our heads up and look to Him and know that He will work everything out for our good. So it will be alright."

12. "Yours"
"God loves to hear from us. This song is a personal re-commitment to Him letting him know how much I love spending my time with Him. It doesn't matter how many times I may get lost on this journey back to Him. Our hearts are His, our thoughts are His and our will is His."
