We all know and love Switchfoot's hit singles, but their lesser known songs hold some lyrical gems as well.
At first it may have been all about the rock n' roll for Switchfoot, but these days it's just as much a lyric game. The group, fronted by profound writer Jon Foreman, has been consistently upping the game with their music for years now, not just in terms of rock, but also with lyrics that find a special home in listeners' hearts. From their thought-provoking Instagram captions to the lines that jump out of their hit songs and metaphorically punch you in the gut, Switchfoot has become the poster-band for albums full of lyrically deep cuts.
In celebration of their tenth studio album Where The Light Shines Through, we've gathered our favorite deep cut moments (songs outside of the singles) from each album. Here's our collection of some of Switchfoot's finest.
1. "Ode to Chin" Lyric: "Grow, grow where you are / anchor your roots underneath / doubt your doubts and believe your beliefs." Album:Legend Of Chin
2. "Only Hope" Lyric: "Sing to me the song of the stars / of Your galaxy dancing and laughing and laughing again / when it feels like my dreams are so far, sing to me of the plans that You have for me over again." Album:New Way To Be Human
3. "Innocence Again" Lyric: "You should know by now that the darkest hour is when your broken heart goes down / it's a bitter end when the sweet begins / grace is sufficiency." Album:Learning To Breathe
4. "Redemption" Lyric: "I've got my hands on redemption's side / Whose scars are bigger than these doubts of mine." Album:The Beautiful Letdown
5. "The Shadow Proves The Sunshine" Lyric: "We are crooked souls trying to stay up straight / dry eyes in the pouring rain / the shadow proves the sunshine." Album:Nothing Is Sound
6. "Let Your Love Be Strong" Lyric: "Let Your love be strong and I don't care what goes down / let Your love be strong enough to weather through the thunder cloud / fury and thunder clap like stealing the fire from your eyes / all of my world hanging on your love." Album:Oh! Gravity
7. "Enough To Let Me Go" Lyric: "Breathe it in and let it go / every breath you take is not yours to own / do you love me enough to let me go?" Album:Hello Hurricane
8. "Thrive" Lyric: "A steering wheel don't mean you can drive / a warm body don't mean I'm alive / no I'm not alright / I know that I'm not right / feels like I travel but I never arrive / I want to thrive not just survive." Album:Vice Verses
9. "All Or Nothing At All" Lyric: "You feel your heart beat loudest when it's breaking / you and I both know our fatal flaws / we both know that love is what you make it / I want you all or nothing at all." Album: Fading West
10. "I Won't Let You Go" Lyric: "There ain't no darkness strong enough that could tear you out from my heart / no there ain't no strength that's strong enough that could tear this love apart." Album:Where The Light Shines Through
