It's been a while since I've reflected on a current Track Obsession, but I guess it took the right song to jolt the column out of retirement. Young Noah has emerged as a powerhouse indie hip-hop talent with his current single, "Long Way to Go" feat. Audio Adrenaline, but that's just the beginning.
The song "Speed of Light" feat. talented vocalist J. Carter is playing loudly and proudly at the NRT offices, so I thought it necessary to talk to Young Noah himself about the song from Forever Young, which the artist said had been written several years ago.
"It had just been sitting on my computer," Noah recalled, saying that when he originally penned it with J. Carter, the theme of the track was "trying to express how sometimes you have a certain dream for yourself, something you want to attain for your life, but God may have a different idea or plan."
When Young Noah revisited "Speed of Light," he gave it a serious renovation--musically and lyrically.
"I wanted it to reflect how when you're walking in the will of God--His divine will for your life--sometimes it feels like you're on this fast track path to where He wants you to go," he said. "There's a lot of peace there. That's kind of what the song evolved into."
The tune is high-energy, putting an uptempo varnish on some pretty deep theology about walking in the kingdom. It's definitely a personal song indeed for Young Noah, who has been blown away by the rapid rise of his song "Long Way to Go" and his first Billboard chart success.
"I'm just at home, living my life, and the song is getting played everywhere," he said. "I feel that God is using the song and I'm just at home chillin'. It's really a blessing, and I never saw it coming. It took off at the speed of light and it wasn't anything I did."
There's a lot of talk about dreams in "Speed of Light," and Young Noah shared why it's important for believers to dream big dreams (and pray for their realization) while on the earth.
"I remember when became a Christian, I felt like the world was so dark, that there was nothing in the world to be desired," he said. "My mom told me you have to occupy the time, put your hands to the plow and be faithful to the talents that God gives you. You have to pursue. You have to use your gifts to help others, love on a dying world. It's our responsibility to do great things for God so He gets all the glory--live my life in a way make people look towards God."
