Worship in your car, at home, and even in your church is one thing--but in a crowded arena, it's a way different experience. Here are some memorable moments in that space.
Worship through music is a beautiful thing, both to watch and to take part in. Still more beautiful though is collective worship, when the body of Christ comes together to sing in unity to our God. Though this doesn't have to take place at a concert or worship event, some of our favorite moments are the ones that could (and sometimes do) fill a stadium with all the voices singing in unison (let's call them "Stadium Rock Worship Moments").
These moments are the ones that leave us breathless, caught up in the wonder and awe of such a time of worship--the ones that find us with tears running down our face, hands lifted high, totally in the presence of our Savior. These are beautiful moments, so we decided to collect a few of our favorites for you. Here's our top 5 list of Stadium Rock Worship Moments--illustrated by various videos capturing these live performances.
1. "You're Beautiful" - Phil Wickham
Phil Wickham's voice is one that pulls out emotions you didn't even know existed in you. Often able to move people to tears within one song, Phil's unique voice is one of rare beauty. One of his songs that best showcases this, "You're Beautiful," leaves space for the crowd to sing along in a powerful moment of praise.
2. "The Stand" - Hillsong
Another song quick to fill a room with a spirit of praise, "The Stand" by Hillsong boasts one of the most well-known bridges in all of worship music. Hearing the crowd sing out these lyrics of surrender always proves to be a moving moment : "So I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned / in awe of the One who gave it all / I'll stand / my soul, Lord, to You surrendered / all I am is Yours."
3. "10,000 Reasons" - Matt Redman
This special song of worship is one nearly everyone knows. The Scripture-saturated lyrics immediately bring listeners to a place of intimate praise as crowds sing in unison, "Bless the Lord O my soul, O my soul / worship His holy name." The atmosphere of worship makes for a truly beautiful moment anytime this song is sung.
4. "Lord I Need You" - Matt Maher
Another song that most fans of worship music will quickly recognize, "Lord I Need You" definitely fits the category of songs that could fill a stadium. A group of voices united over the lyrics of dependence and trust make for a powerful moment as Matt Maher leads this reverent time of worship. It was chosen to carry a very poignant moment in Rio at the 2013 World Youth Day for the Catholic Church.
5. "Great Are You Lord" - All Sons & Daughters
Currently gaining traction in the worship community, "Great Are You Lord" seems to be the new 'it song' in Christian music -- and for good reason. The beautiful lyrics of praise capture an audience in worship and make for a powerful 'stadium' moment.
