This year marks the third Christmas for still-newlyweds Joel Smallbone of for KING & COUNTRY and Moriah Peters, and with a little bit of history under their belt, we thought we'd ask each of them--separately--five questions about their gift-giving, their gift-getting, and traditions at home they've established.
1. What does your spouse want for Christmas this year?
Moriah: He wants a new iPhone or shoes.
Joel: Complimentary little rings for her wedding ring. Fountain pens as well. She doesn't have a really good backpack of a shoulder bag. We're going to Australia, too. That's kind of a pseudo Christmas present.
2. What does your spouse think YOU want for Christmas this year?
Moriah: Fountain pens.
Joel: I think she thinks I want clothes. I really don't have a list or anything. She always finds really creative things to get me. I've not told her anything, though.
3. What would you say is your spouse's favorite gift you ever got them?
Moriah: A onesie pajama sweatsuit.
Joel: The wedding ring doesn't count, but that was a big one. On our first anniversary I kind of surprised her and we went away to St. Augustine. I booked a bed and breakfast. It was a big weekend; not really tangible, but I think that was up there.
4. When have you missed the mark when it comes to gift-giving?
Moriah: He's going to have a hard time answering this one... I think he likes everything I've bought him.
Joel: The Christmas the year before last we were out in California with her parents, and it was a last minute shopping kind of thing. I really like this brand Free People. It's a little bit hipster. I like it. I bought all this Free People stuff and thought it was beautiful. And I bought this record player, with the idea that whenever we do shows, we could collect records. She returned the record player, and I think she returned all but one of the pieces of Designer Clothing. But she was very gracious about it.
5. What's your favorite tradition you two have established together?
Moriah: Family dinners!
Joel: Our tradition honestly, is that we really try to protect home time. She'll make these lovely dumplings, she'll make a lovely meal, and we'll get a good film and we have our kitty cat, and we'll have these little seaweed snacks and little mochi balls and that's it; that's our time at home. That's the best.
How'd they do? When did you totally nail it when it came to a Christmas gift? Share in the comments.
