We highlight seven of our favorite songs from the harder side of Seventh Day Slumber.
Seventh Day Slumber has been rocking the stage for a decade with their powerful rock anthems and their even more powerful message of truth. Famous for their honest, no-holds-barred approach to both music and the message of the gospel, the group’s latest effort Redline epitomizes their mission. In honor of the new release, we’re highlighting seven of their best heavy-hitting standouts from over the years.
1. "Candy" from Picking Up the Pieces (2005)
This song was one of the first rockers to put SDS on the map for a lot of listeners. The song is one of many born from lead singer and former drug addict Joseph Rojas's testimony, using the unique comparison "Your love's like candy, like something I've never tasted before" to express experiencing God's love for the first time.
2. "Chris's Letter" from Once Upon A Shattered Life (2005)
This landmark album for the band became perhaps best known in many circles for songs like "Caroline" and "Oceans From the Rain," but it held its fair share of rock and roll deep cuts. "Chris's Letter," a dark song detailing a desperate soul's cry for help, is one of the best.
3. "Break Me" from Once Upon A Shattered Life (2005)
Another deep cut from Once Upon a Shattered Life, "Break Me" is Seventh Day Slumber at their best, with lyrics of empowerment through Christ despite life's attempts to knock you down.
4. "Awake" from Finally Awake (2006)
This anthem is best heard live, where it can be musically infused with the same energy found in the lyrics. The guitar riff here is undeniably one of the band's best.
5. "Addicted to My Pain" from The Anthem of the Angels (2011)
Although this song released during the timeframe in which Seventh Day Slumber became known for primarily doing worship, "Addicted to My Pain" is certainly a rocker in its own right. A chilling intro builds into a song of impassioned self-examination and repentance.
6. "We Are the Broken" from We Are the Broken (2014)
Last year's We Are the Broken held quite a few strong heavy tracks, but the title track may have been the strongest. This song demands engagement through singing along, headbanging, or jumping-- a quality crucial to a good rock song.
7. "Bring it On" from Redline (2015)
This fall's brand new EP (set to be the first of two) is a set of songs that will satisfy the rockers from start to finish. "Bring it On" sets the stage as an unabashed fight song, declaring faith for victory no matter the odds.

Tolkien and pushing the boundaries enacted by societal norms.
