From Sonicflood to his solo efforts, we breakdown the best songs of his career (on his birthday).
It's Jeff Deyo's birthday on Nov. 5, and to celebrate, we thought we'd give you the definitive listing of the ten best songs by Jeff, whether as part of Sonicflood or his own solo efforts. Take a look, and a listen:
1. "More Love, More Power" - Jeff Deyo, Saturate
In similar style to what Deyo did with the slower worship tune "In the Secret" (more on that later), he took a slow worship song and turned it into an upbeat, celebratory praise hit.
2. "Ray of Light" - Jeff Deyo, Light
This was the standout track of Deyo's second solo project, blending upbeat electronic elements with the rock style fans had come to expect. No, it had nothing to do with a Madonna song that was released around the same time.
3. "My Refuge" - Sonicflood, Sonicflood
The unexpected punch in the gut on Sonicflood's debut album, this one starts out unassumingly and then hits you with a big chorus you can't help but sing along with.
4. "As I Lift You Up" - Jeff Deyo, Light
This happy-go-lucky (but still reverent) ditty is a call to worship driven by swing-beat strumming electric guitars. Great harmonies and personal-vertical lyrics, complete with a dcTalk-sounding bridge (which makes sense since Sonicflood was originally called Zilch, and was dcTalk's backing band).
5. "Perfection of Beauty" - Jeff Deyo, Moving Mountains
The most recent song on this list, this was a deep cut from Deyo's underrated 2012 release. It finds Deyo doing what he does best, writing mid-to-uptempo rock-worship gems. It basically extols all of God's holy qualities with the passion we like singing along with.
6. "I Want to Know You" - Sonicflood, Sonicflood
This one was the breakout hit for the Deyo-led Sonicflood from their debut album. It took a really slow worship song ("In the Secret") and turned it into a danceable hit. It's still the biggest Sonicflood song of all time, and quite possibly Deyo's.
7. "You Are Good (Live)" - Jeff Deyo, Surrender
Although released years after the whole Ardent Worship live albums, this has a similar feel. Crowd vocals pepper this highly congregational, worshipful gem that builds to a big, glorious conclusion.
8. "Let it Flow" - Jeff Deyo, Saturate
Another head-bobber of a pop/rock worship gem, this tune from Deyo's first solo project captures a similar pop vibe to "As I Lift You Up," which came later. "I wanna see your spirit moving through the streets (ba da da)" is really really catchy to sing.
9. "Bless the Lord" - Jeff Deyo, Light
This one has great strings, a darker chord progression and a duet with worship leader Rita Springer--all ingredients for a great tune. No wonder it's one of his all-time most popular songs.
10. "Satisfy" - Jeff Deyo, Saturate
This confessional gem starts from a dark feel and explodes into a bright declaration of allegiance and a desire to be free.
What are your favorite Jeff Deyo/Deyo-era Sonicflood songs? Any that should've made the list?
