AN NRT EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Omega Levine: Past the Parachute
The former Parachute Band singer has gone solo, and NRT’s Mark Ryan catch up with him.

Three years after leaving Parachute Band to have more time to enjoy marriage and invest in his local church community, New Zealand's Omega Levine is preparing to release a new EP this year and has been busy sharing his message of hope. NRT's Mark Ryan had a chance to catch up with Omega at this year's YC Alberta Youth conference.

You've taken a bit of a break from music. How has that been?

It's been amazing. I wouldn't say a break; I got married and have a kid now and it's definitely full-on. I'm a worship pastor at my home church. God's been incredible over the last three years now. It's been really cool being able to be back home after seven years of travelling with the band and stuff so it's been a great experience.

So you've released a few tracks over the past year on Soundcloud, so I had to check those out -- all great I might add. Is this the early makings of a new album?

Yeah, I'm working on an EP at the moment. I'm working with a few different producers back home, so when I head back after the Canada trip I'll be in the studio again. It's been incredible, writing new music, writing new material, a different kind of style, so it's been exciting.

Any expected release date on that new EP or is it too early?

Nah, it's too early. I've got four songs that are ready but we're just picking the time to release it. I'm releasing one song online. It's called "Burden." It's pretty nerve wracking releasing new stuff especially with what I've come from, but it's exciting.

So would you say God's birthed a new vision in you then?

Yeah, totally. Obviously with Parachute Band we toured so many different countries and led worship. I guess the season of just being at home, God really birthed in me a new sound and a new perspective on my writing. And obviously having a family changes everything and having a child makes my perspective of Christ and His love. It's huge. So it's been really cool being able to process that and channel it through music.

We're at the YC conference this year and the theme is "Unstoppable." What does unstoppable mean to you?

Unstoppable means to me that when you have the love of Christ in you, that becomes the energy and the space where you become unstoppable. It's when you share your testimony, or you're sharing a song that means so much to you that goes beyond people's expectations. When I think of unstoppable I really think of when God does more than we can ever think or imagine.

How can we be praying for you?

Prayer for travel. Obviously I'm here with my wife and kid as well. That God would continue to birth in me new songs and new ways of reaching people and helping people connect with Jesus.
