I woke up groggy from the late night last night, but with a toddler at home, sometimes getting up early is easier than it is for most folks. It was a regular Saturday morning. I made pancakes for the family before they headed out for the morning and made myself a coffee, and most importantly, prepared my heart to receive what was in store through reading the Bible.
As I walked into the arena this morning, I heard that familiar swing music sound that has been on repeat: "Daywalkers" by Propaganda. He was doing his sound check with DJ Efechto backing him up. It was my first "fanboy" moment of the conference. It was awesome to see an artist perfecting their craft.
Mike Love, the Director of YC, opened the morning with some crowd engaging sing-a-long including hits from the movie
Frozen and
Despicable Me 2, and what would an evangelical church service be without the usual handshaking and making uncomfortable statements to your neighbor?
Propaganda opened the morning session with three songs from
Crimson Cord. Ben Cantelon led in worship again while Eric Samuel Timm continued his four part painting service. Last year was
The Avengers, seem like Justice League is the theme this year.
I was excited for the speaker in the morning session since I'm halfway through the book "Love Does" and this morning's speaker was Bob Goff. He is a fireball of energy, especially for first thing in the morning. His message can best be described as humorous, engaging, heartfelt and of course loving. Some key statements he made this morning were:
- You don't need so much information about Jesus, you just need Jesus.
- Live in grace, walk in love.
- Don't call it ministry, just call it Tuesday.
I am looking forward to an afternoon of concerts and engaging conversations.
