Active Faith is an organization that may be relatively new to the masses. It is a Christian apparel company headed by former basketball player Lanny Smith. What is their mission? According to their website, the mission is: "To use the platform that athletics provides to represent our faith while sharing and spreading the word of God." Many basketball and football players support and wear Active Faith Apparel.  

 

During the recent All-Star weekend (Feb. 16, 2013), Active Faith held their first annual Faith and Family event at Second Baptist Church in Houston. This first-time event, by all accounts, was a great success. It featured a great question-and-answer session with NBA and NFL players, the high-flying Acrodunk team, and the Houston Rockets' mascot (Clutch the Bear). It culminated with a rocking concert by Grammy Award winner and WE LOVE AWARD-winning Male Vocalist of the Year, Lecrae. 

 

The Q&A session, led by long-time Houston Rocket commentator, Bill Worrell, was a great way for players to share their testimony of living a Christian life amidst so much temptation. Running back Justin Forsett (of the Houston Texans) talked about the beauty of being a virgin until he married his wife. This drew much applause.

 

Worrell is such a natural and he was thrilled to pose questions to athletes such as wide receiver Stephen Williams (of the Seattle Seahawks), Stephen Curry (of the Golden State Warriors), Nolan Smith (of the Portland Trail Blazers and the 2010 National Championship Duke team), Anthony Tolliver (of the Atlanta Hawks--an Active Faith investor), quarterback Case Keenum (Houston Texans) and more. 

 

Fans who bought a ticket were also given a voucher to attend a Houston Rockets game. This almost seemed too good to be true, but that is what Active Faith is about. They want to give back to the community and those in need. 

 

They also asked attendees to bring canned goods to donate to the Houston Food Bank. After a high energy dance from a passionate youth group and a testimony from Second Baptist's youth pastor, Michael Head, Lecrae took the stage. He blazed with such bangers as: "Don't Waste Your Life", "Violence", and "Church Clothes", just to name a few. 

 

The audience, with many rushing to the altar to get a little closer to the action, was with him every step of the way. People were yelling his lyrics, bobbing their heads and listening to him as he exhorted. Trip Lee preached a mini-sermon and shared the Gospel. After that, Pastor Head gave an altar call to receive Christ. 

 

The "Faith and Family" event was an event that will not soon be forgotten and it seems to have left a lasting imprint on the hearts of the youth and the adults who attended. Active Faith, (www.myactivefaith.com) will only build on this and continue to equip athletes and Christians to share their faith even without saying a word.
