The name Beckah Shae has been floating around for a while, and her tracks started showing up on stations like Air1 and WayFm. I very enjoyed the first two radio releases "Life" and "Here in This Moment", and I've kept an eye on her and her music.
I finally decided to purchase the whole album after listening to the rest of the tracks several times. (I find myself buying albums less, because most give you one or two "good" songs, then the rest just fill time.) However, Beckah's album has a great pace, you find a great beat and cleverly written lyrics that do have substance.
Songs like Surrender and Forgiveness capture some deep themes while keeping the music enjoyable - even capturing some of the good ol' hymns in a catchy remix. The Life album has a solid musical production, a good flow of tempo and rhythm and of course a positive theme that points to the Creator all the while having fun.
Put the top down, and turn up the music - this album was meant to be played LOUD!!
Everything you love about Remedy Drive & MORE | Posted March-30-2010
I love it when a band finds the right balance of true self identity and flavor from other familiar styles. As someone who listens to alot of different styles of music, I love the lyrics & foundations that RD bases their music on, coupled with the musical influences of ColdPlay and U2 (a great crowd to be listed with!).
Those who know Remedy Drive will definitly identify with this EP, and those who are new to the band will come to love the depth of their words, and sheer power in their music. Whether rocking out to the tunes of "Daylight", or listening to the thoughful sounds of "Guide You Home", I believe you will quickly fall in love with the band and EP.
I know I did.
Great Job Guys
Ironic Title, Great Album | Posted March-17-2010
At first glance, the title "No Changin' Us" seems ironic, since they have in fact "Changed". The absence of a original group member made me cautious about whether they would be able to keep the same signature sound that has made them so unique. Also, since music has changed so much and many 1st and 2nd Generation CCM artists have had a tough time staying in the game; it made me wonder "can they do it again?".
I must say that after hearing the album, my fears and cautions were put to rest. I firmly believe this is one of their best albums (perhaps since Steady On). The sound is decidedly more country, but with the same heart and energy that made POG great. There is more of a true sound and a bit less breathy production that has ear-marked some of their old albums, but the songs are deep, AND fun.
The album is firmly geared toward the "MOM" demographic, but fans both male and female will be able to relate to the song selection. The song "Come to Jesus" is a great album closer and reminds us why we love POG, and the song "Love and Laundry" captures a humorous look at 'real life' trials to keep up and still love.
The song "No Changin' Us" rings true to the fact that these ladies have survived and industry that has changed several times over, and yet they keep doing what they do best- tell stories and have fun singing. Of course, having producer Nathan Chapman doesn't hurt either (think Taylor Swift, Martina McBride, and Sara Evans, to name a few). He produced a great album, and kept the girls true to who they are in the CCM world, while branching out into the country market.
Definitely a great album, worth the $ and time, glad the lovely ladies of POG still have it!
Great album - Toby Never Disappoints | Posted February-18-2010
Building up to this album, i was a bit concerned because Toby has left such a mark on the industry over the last few albums. I can only imaging the pressure on him to release another "hit" record. I believe he has done it, with the well known (and somewhat overplayed) single "City on Our Knees", to plain ol' git down songs like "Funky Jesus Music" and "ShowStopper". This album will be great for anyone with a convertible wanting to put the top down and crank up the music!
One note of dissent from my "Loyalty" to Toby, i do believe its time to let the "TruDog" tradition go. I don't hate the playa, but the game is getting old.
Give him a few years and I'm sure EMI will give him his own deal.
Its a great album, and he definitely continues the tradition of Great toby mac music.
Solid Sound, and great songs | Posted February-18-2010
Being somewhat of a vetran of the Christian Music Industry (as a consumer mostly), im not sure how this band slipped through my attention till now. Pocket Full of Rocks has a great sound - the lead singer has an amazing voice, and the songs are both catchy and meaningful.
There are several songs that i learned they wrote, several years ago, that have been covered by some major Christian music artists. The song "Let it Rain" is a great song that was released, most recently, by Micheal W Smith.
This CD is a great album and i wish there were more songs. (They wrote over 50 for the album, and narrowed it down to 11 !)
Sidewalk Prophets - "The Words I Would Say" | Posted January-27-2010
I heard these guys in a radio interview and liked what they were saying. They played their single "The Words I Would Say" and i really like the song. I decided to check out the rest of the album and was truly impressed.
Its somewhat rare these days that i enjoy and entire album and feel like the whole project was worth the money. I can honestly say that i like every song on this record. There is a great blend of 'pop' and also some harder stuff, all with great lyrics and incredible vocals from the lead singer Dave.
Having also seen them in the WinterJam tour, i can also attest that they ROCKED their version of "Man in the Mirror"
In a market filled with "OK" artists that have one good song and then a bunch of filler, these guys stand out at good songwriters and vocalist.
