Worship artist Ellie Holcomb first gained attention singing with her husband’s band, Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors, before launching her solo career. She is also the daughter of legendary Christian music producer Brown Bannister, a background that helped shape her deep respect for songwriting rooted in faith, honesty, and craft. After releasing two EPs, Magnolia and With You Now, Holcomb fully introduced her solo voice with her debut album, As Sure As the Sun, which earned her the GMA Dove Award for Best New Artist.
She continued to create a thoughtful, faith-inspired body of work, including albums like Red Sea Road and Canyon, projects that showcased spiritual growth, emotional richness, and a talent for blending Scripture-based truth with accessible melodies. Her songs consistently blend vulnerability and hope, inviting listeners into moments of reflection, healing, and trust in God.
Ellie’s newest album, Far Country, includes the single “Hope’s Gonna Find You.” In this work, she shares heartfelt prayers to God, allowing listeners to experience her genuine offerings through soulful ballads—one of her top skills. As an anointed songwriter, Ellie draws listeners nearer to God with her heartfelt lyrics, gentle vocals, and inspiring messages. I recently spoke with Ellie about “Hope’s Gonna Find You.”
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
“Hope’s Gonna Find You” stems from my experiences with deep sorrow and doubt, portraying hope not as something we cling to, but as something that holds us. I found myself falling into the endless arms of love—the steady love that supports us. I was inspired by the hymn “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” and my own moments of feeling lost and then found in God’s presence. I wrote the song during a season when I felt like I was falling apart, wanting to explore how love reaches us in our lowest moments. My hope is to encourage listeners that even in pain, we are held and never truly alone—a message deeply rooted in my faith.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Psalm 30:11-12 (VOICE): "You did it: You turned my deepest pains into joyful dancing; You stripped off my dark clothing and covered me with joyful light. You have restored my honor. My heart is ready to explode, erupt in new songs! It's impossible to keep quiet! Eternal One, my God, my Life-Giver, I will thank You forever."
Philippians 4:6 (VOICE): “Don't be anxious about things; instead, pray. Pray about everything. He longs to hear your requests, so talk to God about your needs and be thankful for what has come.”
Philippians 4:7 (NKJV): "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Matthew 6:31-34 (VOICE): “So do not consume yourselves with questions: What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear? Outsiders make themselves frantic over such questions; they don't realize that your heavenly Father knows exactly what you need. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and then all these things will be given to you too. So do not worry about tomorrow. Let tomorrow worry about itself. Living faithfully is a large enough task for today.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV): "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you."
Psalm 121:1-2 (NKJV): "I will lift up my eyes to the hills--From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."
What is the takeaway message?
“Hope’s Gonna Find You” is about finding God in the lowest moments and wanting to remind others that their struggles won't defeat them, because love can always reach them. This song reminds listeners that we are deeply loved and belong, a truth that is confirmed in the empty tomb of Jesus, meaning death doesn't win.
I pray this melody serves as a reminder of God's immense love. I hope it brings beauty and light to every part of your story, and that it whispers, like an old friend would, that you are deeply loved and that you'll never walk alone. We're all just kids making our way back home, and I am honored to sing alongside you on this journey.
Lyrics
What if hope’s not a path that you chose It’s the loss of control It’s a landslide of losing my religion Going blind to find my vision
I thought it was my job to know Where the flowers would grow When it turns out The lighting the and the thunder The easy breeze of summer Doesn’t feel like I’ve got control
What if hope’s not a rope you hold on to What if it’s the arms that have always held you On the edge when it feels like you’re not gonna pull through Is the place you discover that hope’s gonna find you Hope’s gonna find you
Well I lost my respect for the dark But if that’s where you are Could I let go of the light I thought would guide me And trust You’ll come and find me
I thought that I had to hold on That I had to stay strong But I don’t cause you’ve been holding onto me all along
What if hope’s not a rope you hold on to What if it’s the arms that have always held you (I’m leaning) On the edge when it feels like you’re not gonna pull through Is the place you discover that hope’s gonna find you Hope’s gonna find you
I’m leaning, I’m leaning On the Everlasting Arms I’m leaning, I’m leaning I could never fall too far I’m leaning, I’m leaning On the Everlasting Arms I’m leaning, I’m leaning I could never fall
What if hope’s not a rope you hold on to What if it’s the arms that have always held you (I’m leaning) On the edge when it feels like you’re not gonna pull through Is the place you discover that hope’s gonna find you Hope’s gonna find you
I’m leaning, I’m leaning On the Everlasting Arms I’m leaning, I’m leaning I could never fall too far I’m leaning, I’m leaning On the Everlasting Arms I’m leaning, I’m leaning Leaning, leaning Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
Leaning, leaning Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
Closing Thoughts
Ellie prays to God, giving listeners a chance to eavesdrop on her heartfelt offerings and captivating ballads, which are among her strengths. “Hope’s Gonna Find You” is packed with positive, grace-filled messages. The eternal love of Jesus is beautifully expressed in this moving song that touches your heart, soul, and mind.
This song emphasizes surrendering your worries, anxieties, and stress to God and allowing Him to guide you. Being washed by the water of the Word strengthens believers with the truth that God wants us to understand: fear, worry, and anxiety are not part of His plan for our lives. Throughout Scripture, the Lord tells us to lift our eyes to Him, and this song celebrates that truth.
The most uplifting aspect of this song is the reminder that perfection isn't necessary—God knows His children and loves them exactly as they are. This gives us reason to celebrate, as it offers the freedom to be ourselves, assured that He has wonderful plans for His children.
Ellie is an anointed songwriter whose emotional words, gentle singing, and inspiring truths reflect a mature faith and a genuine desire to serve Jesus. These songs express a longing for courage and a desire for hearts to be guided toward the unconditional love of a heavenly Father.
What a wonderful, loving, and gracious God we serve. Remember and celebrate this truth when singing these words:
“What if hope’s not a rope you hold on to, what if it’s the arms that have always held you. On the edge when it feels like you’re not gonna pull through is the place you discover that hope’s gonna find you.” Amen to that.
