Author Douglas McKelvey and Jon Lowry, bassist from the band Unspoken, team up again to release Q2 2026, a brand new ten-song album collection based on McKelvey’s new best-selling book series Every Moment Holy, which will be available on streaming platforms on May 29.
This is their second full-length album release after they launched Every Moment Holy: Prayer Songs, a 20-song double-length album this past January.
The two came up with the idea of creating songs based on short, musical, psalm-like offerings to aid personal prayer and meditation after a medical emergency involving one of Jon’s daughters.
“I remember my own stumbling words as I tried to comfort my kids in the back seat of our car as we rushed to the hospital, and my own faltering prayers as I wondered if I’d seen my daughter alive for the last time. I thought of Every Moment Holy and how the prayers Doug had written so often put words for the things I wanted to say myself, but didn’t know how. I wished for some sort of “Every Moment Holy” prayers that could travel beyond the printed page that I could pray even while driving,” Lowry wrote.
McKelvey and Lowry wrote a chorus based on McKelvey’s prayer the morning of the medical procedure, “I will trust you, I will trust you to lead me well. Down the mountain, through the valley, who can tell? Where the road goes, you alone know. Bid me follow, I will follow. I will trust you, I will trust you to lead me well.”
Thankfully, Lowry’s daughter was completely healthy again, but the memories of the day were still fresh as they wrote these songs.
“We started to write verses to that chorus as songwriters do,” McKelvey said, “But we both simultaneously concluded that maybe that was all the song needed to be? Maybe we could even make it seamlessly loopable in the recording so that people could put a prayer song on repeat and sit in that space as long as they needed to.”
Other songs are based on prayers, including battling a destructive desire, the death of a dream, and even feasting with friends.
