Two-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer and songwriter Lauren Daigle returned with her hit singles, "Thank God I Do" and "These Are The Days," and released her self-titled album, Lauren Daigle (Extended). "Thank God I Do" marked the launch of a new creative chapter for the multi-platinum-selling, Louisiana-bred artist, who announced the signing to Atlantic Records in partnership with longtime label home Centricity Music.
The album showcases Lauren's gifts as a songwriter and her shimmering, emotion-laden voice. This album is loaded with positive grace-filled messages of hope. Her songs address the pressures of life, and she understands that her identity only comes from her relationship with God. I love Lauren's intentionality and focus on God's provision in her life. She is a uniquely gifted singer/songwriter with a big, memorable, dynamic, yet intimate voice. These songs's poetic lyrics poignantly capture life's simple yet vital messages.
The emotional vocals and the prayerful lyrics in these sacred songs engage me. Lauren's vocals will soothe your soul. Do yourself a favor and listen to these beautiful expressions of faith, hope, and love. This is my album of 2023. I had the chance to speak with Lauren about her stirring song, "Be Okay."
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
I wrote this track with my friend Ellie Holcomb, and it's so special to me. Whatever hardship you may be going through--in joy or sorrow, in strength and weakness--there is a promise that we can hold on to that God works together good things for our good. You may be feeling like you don't have purpose on this earth, or you don't know what your reason for being here is, but I promise you it will all be okay.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG): "Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me, and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me, and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
Lamentations 3:28-30 (MSG): "When life is heavy and hard to take, go off by yourself. Enter the silence. Bow in prayer. Don't ask questions: Wait for hope to appear. Don't run from trouble. Take it full-face. The "worst" is never the worst."
Romans 8:11 (VOICE): "If the Spirit of the One who resurrected Jesus from the dead lives inside of you, then you can be sure that He who raised Him will cast the light of life into your mortal bodies through the life-giving power of the Spirit residing in you."
Psalm 33:20-22 (MSG): "We're depending on God; He's everything we need. What's more, our hearts brim with joy since we've taken for our own His holy name. Love us, God, with all you've got--that's what we're depending on."
Hebrews 6:19 (NLT): "This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God's inner sanctuary."
Psalm 119:114 (NKJV): "You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word."
Psalm 121 (NKJV): "I will lift up my eyes to the hills--From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore."
1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV): "Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."
Romans 8:28 (VOICE): "We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan."
What is the takeaway message?
"Be Okay" offers a reminder that life's trials and heartbreaks do not have to be faced alone, as there is a source of love and strength that will always be present. I hope this song instills a sense of hope and positivity, reassuring us that we will find our way, no matter how lost we may feel.
Lyrics
You're gonna be okay
You're, you're gonna be okay
Oh, the sun will keep on risin' in that old familiar way
And every little thing is gonna be okay
You're gonna be alright
Darlin', you're, you're gonna be alright
'Cause the stars'll keep on shinin' through the darkest night
And you can know you're gonna be alright
Lift your eyes to the hills
Remember where your help comes from
Lift your eyes to the hills
You'll never face a valley alone
'Cause even when your heart is breakin'
And you've gone and lost your way
You're, you're gonna be okay
You're gonna be okay
I know that you're, you're gonna be okay
Not a care in this whole world can take that truth away
You're, you're gonna be okay
You're gonna be alright
Darlin', you're, you're gonna be alright
At the end of all our breath, when we're beckoned on to the light
Love'll meet you there, you're gonna be alright
Oh, the end of all our breath is the beginning of new life
You're, you're gonna be alright
Closing Thoughts
We can get through anything we might be dealing with on this side of eternity, knowing that we have a blessed hope waiting for us in Heaven. But while we're here, Jesus taught us to pray for His kingdom to come, to do His will, and to tell others about His greatness. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Once the light of the Holy Spirit is in you, you can show that light to others as you live your daily life, including outside of a worship context.
Many of us struggle with the idea that our past and present mistakes and thoughts of anxiety, worry, and depression define us, yet the Bible tells us that isn't true.
Read that excellent translation in The Message of Matthew 11:28-30. Jesus tells us: "Come to me. Get away with me, and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest." What an incredible comfort to know that when we struggle with our pain, pride, and unloving natures, we can all lay it at the feet of Jesus.
"Be Okay" truly touches me. It articulates what it means to live a God-centered life in a turbulent world. It's a daily prayer asking God to come and change our hearts and lives so that our behavior and the way we live flow from God living inside us. Worship is about giving God our best, offering all of ourselves to Him. All we can do is submit to Him and give everything we have to Him.
According to God's Word in Jeremiah 29:13, we need to search for God with all of our hearts, and we will find Him. In our fast-paced society, how often are we dedicating our whole heart to God? This song moves me in my personal worship time. So many people can relate to the song's comforting message of hope. Breathe it in like oxygen, and God's hope will turn whatever you're going through into something different for His glory.
Many people struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts. Lauren's hope is to pass on the life-giving message of Jesus Christ. Allow The Holy Spirit to "cast the light of life into your mortal bodies." If you are struggling with depression, please know with certainty these life-giving words: "You're, you're gonna be okay/You're gonna be alright/Darlin', you're, you're gonna be alright/At the end of all our breath, when we're beckoned on to the light/Love'll meet you there, you're gonna be alright/Oh, the end of all our breath is the beginning of new life/You're, you're gonna be alright." Amen to that.
