I had the pleasure of speaking with Lauren about her latest single, "These Are The Days," where she shared her inspirations and the deeper meaning behind this touching song.
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
"These Are the Days" was written right after I received my first phone call about our festival offer post-2020. My manager called and said, ‘I have good news: we have a festival offer,’ I remember being so elated. This was a moment--a breaking moment for me—to get back on stage again.
The following day, I entered the recording studio with my producer. He played a new track, seeking lyrics and offering to sing any that came to mind. I kept saying, "These are the days, these are the days, these are the days we’ve been dreaming of." And I remember thinking these words were only placeholder lyrics until I sat and thought about them over and over. Then my co-writers Natalie Hemby and Jason Ingram brought up the word jubilee, and I knew we were writing a song about God coming back again.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Romans 8:11(VOICE): "If the Spirit of the One who resurrected Jesus from the dead lives inside of you, then you can be sure that He who raised Him will cast the light of life into your mortal bodies through the life-giving power of the Spirit residing in you."
1 Corinthians 8:6(NKJV): “Yet for us, there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.”
Psalm 34:18(NKJV): “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit.”
Psalm 113:3(NKJV): “From the rising of the sun to its going down, the Lord’s name is to be praised.”
Acts 4:12(NKJV): “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
John 18:36(VOICE): "My kingdom is not recognized in this world. If this were My kingdom, My servants would fight for My freedom. But My kingdom is not in this physical realm."
Hebrews 13:8(NKJV): “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Ephesians 2:13-16(NKJV): "But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity."
Romans 15:13(NIV): “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Philippians 3:20(NLV): "But we are citizens of heaven. Christ, the One Who saves from the punishment of sin, will be coming down from heaven again. We are waiting for Him to return."
Romans 8:28(VOICE): “We are confident that God can orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.”
Romans 8:38-39 (VOICE): "For I have every confidence that nothing—not death, life, heavenly messengers, dark spirits, the present, the future, spiritual powers, height, depth, nor any created thing—can come between us and the love of God revealed in the anointed, Jesus our Lord."
What is the takeaway message?
The song is a call to those fearful, confused, and uncertain about current times. It’s a reminder that these are the days we’ve been waiting for. This is jubilation that we know God is coming back again. Christ will return one day, and we celebrate here and now for what is to come.
Lyrics
People out there, people out there
Let go of your cares
Turn your cries into loud hallelujahs
This is what we came for, oh Leave all your worries behind
We know the future's burning bright
This is the great jubilation
This is what He came for, what He came for Oh, these are the days, these are the days
These are the days we've been dreamin' of
So don't look away 'cause these are the days
These are the days, better get 'em while they come We thought we'd never see the sun through the dark skies (through the dark skies)
But all the signs are sayin' it's lookin' up
These are the days, these are the days
These are the days, we've been dreamin' of, oh Open your eyes, open your ears
I'm tellin' you why
You'll see heaven inhabit our praises
This is what we came for, oh Singing a song of paradise
Believing the good news is alive
This is the great jubilation
This is what we came for, what He came for Oh, these are the days, these are the days
These are the days we've been dreamin' of
So don't look away 'cause these are the days
These are the days, better get 'em while they come We thought we'd never see the sun through the dark skies (through the dark skies)
But all the signs are sayin' it's lookin' up
These are the days, these are the days
These are the days, we've been dreamin' of, oh If it's not good, then it's not over
If it's not good, then it's not over
If it's not good, then it's not over
If it's not good, then it's not over These are the days, these are the days
These are the days we've been dreamin' of
So don't look away 'cause these are the days
These are the days. Better get 'em while they come We thought we'd never see the sun through the dark skies (through the dark skies)
But all the signs are sayin' it's lookin' up
These are the days, oh these are the days
These are the days we've been dreamin' of, oh
Closing Thoughts
God wants us to believe in our freedom in the cross of Jesus. “These Are the Days” paints a beautiful picture of hope, healing, and redemption while exploring what God's presence on earth can look like now and forever. So many people can relate to the message of this great song. We raise our hands to celebrate and surrender, confident in God's unfailing mercy and love. We can confidently lift our hands to God and know His mercy is unfailing. His love is never-ending. He’s our refuge and our strength.
We can face any challenge on this side of eternity with the assurance of blessed hope in heaven. While we're here, Jesus taught us to pray for His kingdom to come, to do His will, and to tell others about His greatness. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Once you have the light of the Holy Spirit, you can share that light with others in your daily life, even outside a religious setting.
Do you sing by fully surrendering yourself to the music, or do you recite the lyrics? When you sing the song, don't just sing it; know it and live it out. Make Jesus the Lord of your life. Make every activity and thought point to Him. The song's message challenges us to think about our doubts. And how Jesus calls us to rely on Him and the power of His resurrection. It reminds us to remember that Jesus has overcome death and fear.
As a believer, know that heaven is calling out to you. He’s real, and He’s nearby. He’s the author of our lives and knows what's best for us—much better than we do. That's the reason to sing this empowering anthem in gratefulness to Him. And that's ultimately the message behind "These Are the Days" enjoying the beauty of God's presence, praising Him with your whole heart, and letting your light shine in a world that needs to experience the true grace and hope found only in Jesus. Praying for heaven on earth aligns with God's will, and we are commanded to share the Gospel in the Great Commission.
The song's message is to hold on to Christ as something better comes. The grace and promise that God is with us are proclaimed in the lyrics: “Open your eyes, open your ears/I'm tellin' you why/You'll see Heaven inhabit our praises/This is what we came for, oh/Singing a song of paradise/Believing the good news is alive/This is the great jubilation/This is what we came for, what He came for.” This message is what moves me and guides me in my Christian walk. Live every day for heaven, and don’t forget that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
If you're looking for a firm foundation in your life, make these lyrics your prayer: “These are the days, these are the days/These are the days we've been dreamin' of/So don't look away 'cause these are the days/These are the days, better get 'em while they come.” Amen to that.
