Rising Red Street Records artist Consumed By Fire comprises brothers Caleb, Josh, and Jordan Ward. Raised as children of pastors, they grew up traveling and experiencing diverse cultures and music.
The brothers are excited to reveal their newest album, First Things First. With a theme of ultimate surrender, the band’s lyrics were inspired by personal experiences that challenged them to cast aside their fears and plans and give into God’s path.
The stirring music and hopeful message found in the captivating title track single "First Things First" mesh seamlessly. Fans of rock, pop, a touch of Americana, and a smidge of country will enjoy this band's sound, which is infectious and approachable. It has quickly become one of my most played and favorite songs of the year. If you like the southern rock sensibilities of NEEDTOBREATHE and Rhett Walker Band, you must stay tuned to what's next from Consumed By Fire, as they are a band to watch in 2023. I had the chance to speak with Jordan about their song, “Walk with Jesus.”
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
This song is meant to be an anthem for believers, giving them a powerful way to declare their faith in Jesus. Even if it's unpopular to proclaim that He is the only way, truth, and life, we have to believe what the word of God says and consider what Jesus himself taught. This song encourages us to stand firm in our faith and boldly proclaim the truth—even when it's difficult. We have to say it unapologetically, and that's the boldness you feel.
This song comes from the message of John 14:6, and just saying, “Hey, it doesn't matter if anybody goes with me, we're going to walk with Jesus, and we believe He is the way, the truth, and the life, and so let's walk with Him.”
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Matthew 6:32-34(VOICE): Outsiders make themselves frantic over such questions; they don't realize that your heavenly Father knows exactly what you need. Seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first, and then all these things will be given to you, too. So do not worry about tomorrow. Let tomorrow worry about itself. Living faithfully is a large enough task for today.
John 14:6(NIV): Jesus answered, "I am the way, truth, and life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
Philippians 4:11(VOICE): I am not saying this because I am in need. I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances.
1 Peter 5:7(NKJV): “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
Psalm 55:22(NIV): “Cast your cares on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV): "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Romans 8:28(VOICE): “We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.”
1 Corinthians 13:12(NKJV): "For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. I know in part, but then I shall know just as I am known."
What is the takeaway message?
When we say do what He says to do, it’s not the dos and don’ts. It’s saying I’m going to follow the words of Jesus. What Jesus laid out for us and how He laid out for us to live, we’re going to do that.
We’re so fired up for this collection of songs we’ve released. We're praying and believing that people will be filled with hope and that their faith will be stirred as they sing these songs over themselves and their families.
This new music is our chance to carry on our father’s legacy. We can take the things he taught us from scripture and everyday life and share them with others through our music and our shows. This is our opportunity to carry that torch for him.
Lyrics
So many people Trying to fill a void inside So many questions Asking how, Asking why I might not have all the answers But I’ve tasted, and I’ve seen There’s a better path with Jesus There’s no going back for me
I’m gonna live the way he says to live Do what He says to do You can choose whatever road you choose But I’m gonna love the way He says to love Trust the way He says to trust This world alone will never be enough So, I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk with Jesus (I’m gonna walk, I’m gonna walk)
He’s in the leading That’s why I follow where He goes He’s in restoring All the lost and broken souls He keeps moving rich in mercy He meets us where we are No matter where you’ve gone No such thing as gone too far
I’m gonna live the way He says to live Do what He says to do You can choose whatever road you choose But I’m gonna love the way He says to love Trust the way He says to trust This world alone will never be enough So I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk with Jesus
Though none go with me Still, I will follow Though none go with me I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk Though none go with me Still, I will follow Though none go with me I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk Though none go with me Still, I will follow Though none go with me I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk
I’m gonna live the way he says to live Do what He says to do You can choose whatever road you choose But I’m gonna love the way He says to love Trust the way He says to trust This world alone will never be enough So I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk I’m gonna walk with Jesus I’m gonna walk with Jesus
Closing Thoughts
You'll feel uplifted and inspired during worship with this powerful song. The lyrics are impactful and offer biblical truth for comfort. Have joy and worship loudly about the love of God in your life. His grace takes away anxiety, guilt, and shame. Know that being His is enough.
In the lyrics and melody of this song, I sense a genuine longing for the Lord. This song is a great prayer to rid ourselves of worldly distractions and temptations that lead us away from God, praying instead to "be a man after God's own heart."
This song is about submitting all your worries, anxieties, and stress to God and letting Him guide you. He wants to walk beside you, and He wants us to be bold and unafraid.
We walk by faith every day. The beauty of walking by faith and not by sight is that we can learn to trust God more with our lives. God tells us in the Bible that we can do anything in Christ with faith.
The song delivers a terrific message celebrating our freedom based on faith in Christ Jesus. The song has a catchy and worshipful musical style, with holy energy and vitality pulsing through every word.
We all need our great God to fix our messes and turn them into spiritual messages. And the beauty of grace is that it is not something we deserve or can earn, but it is a gift from God. Our thoughts are constantly under attack by the enemy. We spend a lot of time worrying in many areas of our lives. We need to let that go and let the Lord be our redeemer.
Jesus commands us to trust God's Word completely, no matter the circumstances. God's Word assures us to trust what God says about us, no matter how we feel about ourselves. If you've put all your hope and trust in Jesus, nothing can separate you from His love. God sees us as He sees His Son. He makes something out of nothing in each of us.
This powerful song blesses you with a convicting declaration: “I’m gonna live the way He says to live/Do what He says to do/You can choose whatever road you choose/But I’m gonna love the way He says to love/Trust the way He says to trust/This world alone will never be enough/So I’m gonna walk with Jesus.” Amen to that.
