Lately, many Christian artists have been releasing multilingual albums. The United States is the second-largest Spanish-speaking country in the world, so it makes sense that artists and bands have been making their songs available in Spanish.
Although I can barely speak Spanish, I've always enjoyed the sound of Latin music. So, it's been amazing to see that artists like Meredith Andrews, Danny Gokey, and many others have released albums in English and Spanish. Here are a few recent albums you can enjoy.
Meredith Andrews
After going on a life-changing mission trip to Costa Rica, Meredith Andrews had the heart to reach those who speak Spanish. And in May 2021, Meredith released the stunning album, Ábrenos Los Cielos (Open Up the Heavens). It's exciting that people will be able to hear the message of Jesus in their own language. Meredith's album features Spanish-speaking artists like Blanca, Lucia Parker, and many others. The collaborations give the album a feel of unity.
Blanca
Puerto Rican-born artist Blanca is another musician who is reaching people through her Spanish music. In 2019, she released her EP Quebrantado, translated songs from her full-length record, Shattered. Since then, Blanca has continued to release singles and EPs honoring her Latin American heritage. Her most recent project Renovada (Renewed) was different from anything else she's released before. Instead of translating her music from English to Spanish, each song on Renovada was written entirely in Spanish. Like Meredith Andrew's project, this EP is filled with collaborations from artists like GAWVI, Christine D'Clario, and others. It's exciting to see so many artists working together to create these albums.
Danny Gokey
Over the past few years, popular contemporary artist Danny Gokey has become a mainstay in Christian music. He made his start on the mainstream stage in 2009 on American Idol. Since then, he's released six full-length studio projects, as well as a Spanish album. In 2016, Danny released La Esperanza Frente a Mí (Hope In Front of Me), which was our first taste of his Latin music. He didn't disappoint. Danny has continued to release multilingual songs, including his latest Spanish single, "Cristo Es Necesario" with artist Christine D'Clario. His upcoming record Jesus People will feature that single, along with a brand new song called "Agradecido." I can't wait to hear it.
Evan Craft
I never listened to much Spanish music until I discovered contemporary artist Evan Craft at a concert a few months ago. When he walked out on stage, people lost their minds. I honestly had no idea what all the hype was about. I only knew his song "Be Alright," but I didn't know who he was. Once I heard him sing his songs like "The Devil Is A Liar" and "Mi Casa Es Tu Casa," I was sold. Evan has an incredible voice, and he's insanely talented. Born in California, he's not someone you'd typically see singing Spanish music. But, his music has made a profound impact on the Latino community. He's definitely an inspiration.
Christine D'Clario
Pop artist Christine D'Clario has been releasing Latin music for quite some time now. In 2006, she dropped her self-titled debut Spanish album and has continued releasing music since then. Lately, she's been collaborating with many artists in the music industry. In 2020, pop artist Tauren Wells featured her on his song, "Tu Poder (Creo en Ti)." And, most recently, she was featured on contemporary artist Phil Wickham's song, "La Batalla." Her striking vocals are perfect for these songs, and it's been exciting seeing her work together with these artists on their Spanish projects.
GAWVI
Hip-hop artist GAWVI has mixed roots: his father is from El Salvador and his mother is from the Dominican Republic. Although he was born in New York, he's still staying true to his heritage. You don't typically see rappers creating Spanish albums, but that's exactly what GAWVI is doing. It takes a lot of skill, but GAWVI is showing off his talent on his new album, Noche Juvenil (Youth Night). His new impressive record features collaborations with artists Blanca, Tommy Royale, and others. It's a great album, and I'm excited to see what's next for him.
Mosaic MSC
You might recognize the songs "Tremble" and "Heartbeat" from worship band Mosaic MSC. But, you probably didn't know that they also make music in Spanish. I didn't realize that until they released their latest record Ser Humano (Human Being). Contemporary artist Mariah McManus is a member of Mosaic MSC, and her dad Erwin McManus is from El Salvador. I love to see that Mariah is another artist staying true to her roots. Ser Humano is a beautiful record filled with worship. And, I know that this will be such a great record for church congregations to sing.
