Christian music artist Zach Williams’s story will be part of a new 30-day devotional, titled God’s Heart for the Prodigal, to be released May 19. Zach’s parents, Steve and Jenia Williams, wrote the book, which is available for pre-order.
The 240-page devotional book focuses on mercy, redemption, and unfailing love.
Steve said on Zach’s Facebook page that when Zach was dedicated at their church, the pastor said that “this child will be a voice for this generation, but it took 33 years for that word to come to pass. I just want people to know that it doesn’t always happen overnight; it takes time. If you look back at Abraham, God promised him a son; it took 25 years for that to come to pass.”
“There was a season I wandered far from my faith, and my parents never gave up on me…Crystal (Williams, Zach’s wife) and I share our side of the story, too,” Williams wrote on Instagram. He married Crystal in 2007.
Beliefnet reports that Williams turned to a reckless lifestyle, including using alcohol and drugs, which he carried into his marriage.
According to the People website, Crystal inspired Zach to write the song “Love is a Battleground” in 2022 during a difficult time in their relationship.
“I wrote ‘Love is a Battleground’ for my wife, and I think God must have known that the only thing that could save us was love. Anybody tonight who’s ever been in a relationship, who's ever found that person that you’re willing to fight for, die for, do anything for, sacrifice for – you’ll understand that love’s not fair. Love’s not for the faint of heart. It can be a fight, it can be a battle, but it’s worth it if you find that special someone. The way that she’s loved me is just like Jesus,” Zach wrote.
