for KING & COUNTRY is one of my all-time favorite bands. The duo, made up of Aussie brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, have been making music together since 2010 (that's 11 years, to be exact). Since then, they've made a significant and lasting impact on Christian music.
I love their recorded music, but I especially love hearing their music live. They always put on an outstanding show; they're always coming up with innovative ways to make their live shows better.
Are you new to the duo's music? Or, do you like one song and want to hear more? Well, you come to the right article. Here are 10 essential for KING & COUNTRY songs to help you get started. And, if you're already a for KING & COUNTRY fan–like me–these are songs that you need to listen to.
"TOGETHER (feat. Tori Kelly & Kirk Franklin)"
Right in the thick of the COVID-19 lockdown, for KING & COUNTRY released a song that we all needed to hear. "TOGETHER" is a must-hear anthem that personifies the uncertainty of the global pandemic. It's a song that reminds us that we still have each other, even though we were separated physically. It's a song about unity (even the music video symbolized that fact). Pop artist Tori Kelly and gospel great Kirk Franklin brought their signature vocals to the hit. Definitely, a must-stream.
Standout Lyric: "If we fall, we will fall together/When we rise, we will rise together"
"God Only Knows"
for KING & COUNTRY is always providing songs that are relevant and relatable. As we see a spike in suicide in our world today, the band released "God Only Knows" as a reminder that we are seen and loved by God. We all have moments when we feel that no one cares about what we're going through. But the truth is, God sees us. He knows the pain that we're walking through. The lyrics and music video convey this message uniquely and powerfully.
Standout Lyric: "God only knows what you've been through/God only knows what they say about you/God only knows how it's killing you/But there's a kind of love that God only knows"
"joy."
"joy." Is one of my favorite for KING & COUNTRY songs. My niece was three years old when the song came out, and I remember listening to the song on repeat with her. She knew most of the lyrics, and could probably act out the whole music video. She's six now, and I'm not sure if she would still remember her insane obsession with "joy.," but it remains one of my favorite songs. The song, like the title implies, is filled with so much joy. Life is going by so fast, and sometimes we can lose sight of the joy all around us. This song brings us back to the joy that we can find in Christ.
Standout Lyric: "Oh, hear my prayer tonight, I'm singing to the sky/Give me strength to raise my voice, let me testify/Oh, hear my prayer tonight, 'cause this is do or die/The time has come to make a choice/And I choose joy"
"It's Not Over Yet"
Songs like "It's Not Over Yet, "Fix My Eyes," "Shoulders," and many others were featured on for KING & COUNTRY's 2014 release Run Wild. Live Free. Love Strong. That album really showed us what for KING & COUNTRY could do. In particular, their song "It's Not Over Yet" became extremely popular, and an anthem for so many. The song was inspired by Joel and Luke's sister who was diagnosed with Lyme disease. "It's Not Over Yet" is a fight song that was written for her. But, the song has also inspired so many others. It's a reminder that God has a bigger and brighter future for us than what our circumstances might be telling us. It's an amazing song, and it's one of my favorites.
Standout Lyric: "Keep on fighting/Out of the dark, into the light/It's not over, hope is rising/Never give in never give up/It's not over yet"
"Priceless"
Every girl needs a reminder that they're beautiful and valuable. It seems like now more than ever, we're constantly comparing ourselves to others and feeling insecure. But there's only one you, and you're enough. You're priceless. for KING & COUNTRY released their hit single "Priceless" to give girls that reminder. The band even started the Priceless Movement, which is inspiring men to treat women with honor and is encouraging women to know their true worth. Let's crank up the volume, and remember that we are worth so much.
Standout Lyric: "I see you dressed in white, every wrong made right/I see a rose in bloom at the sight of you/Oh, so priceless/Irreplaceable, unmistakable, incomparable, darling it's beautiful/I see it all in you"
"The Proof of Your Love"
Here's a throwback song. Christian radio got some mileage out of this song because I remember hearing it all the time growing up. It's all about letting our lives reflect the love of Jesus. That's something our world needs more of. In a world full of darkness, we're called to be a light. It's a great song and a classic for KING & COUNTRY tune.
Standout Lyric: "Let my life be the proof, the proof of Your love/Let my love look like You, and what You're made of/How You lived, how You died/Love is sacrifice"
"Busted Heart (Hold On To Me)"
"Busted Heart (Hold On To Me)" is so nostalgic to me. I'm pretty sure it was the first for KING & COUNTRY song I ever listened to. It was a popular radio single in the early 2010s, so it's probably how a lot of people were first introduced to the iconic duo. Between the instrumentation and that striking chorus, this song is a masterpiece. Perhaps it's for KING & COUNTRY's greatest song. But, I'll let you decide on that.
Standout Lyric: "I'm screaming out Your name, don't let me fall on my face/I've got a busted heart/I'm in need of a change/Yeah, I'm desperate for grace/Hold on to me"
"Little Drummer Boy"
Yes, I know it's way too early for Christmas music. However, I did hear for KING & COUNTRY perform their song "Little Drummer Boy" in the middle of June about three years ago in Phoenix, Arizona. Outside the arena, it was over 100 degrees. But, inside, we were singing this song together. It was pretty magical. "Little Drummer Boy" truly is one of for KING & COUNTRY's most popular songs--and for good reason, too. Their rendition of this classic is absolutely incredible.
Standout Lyric: "Little baby/I am a poor boy too/I have no gift to bring that's fit to give the King/Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum/On my drum?"
"Amen"
"Amen" is another essential for KING & COUNTRY. It's a song that has gained a lot of attention from radio, making it for KING & COUNTRY's fifth No. 1 single on radio. The song, from their album, Burn The Ships, is all about becoming transformed by Jesus. Once we've come alive in Him, we have to tell someone about it. That's what "Amen" is all about. The song is creative, and it shows what for KING & COUNTRY is capable of.
Standout Lyric: "I'm in love with You/Overwhelmed by You/And if the world is listenin'/This is my confession, You are my obsession/All the people say amen"
"Fine Fine Life"
Although "Fine Fine Life" didn't become as big of a hit as some of for KING & COUNTRY's other songs, I couldn't write this article without including it. It's such a fun song, and to me, it's an essential for KING & COUNTRY song. "Fine Fine Life" is one of my favorite songs to hear live. You can't help but smile while listening to it. It seems like the best song to conclude this list with.
Standout Lyric: "The sun is crashing in the ocean/And you just can't help yourself but wonder how we all forget/It's a fine fine life"
