Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
Bizzle - "Black and Blue"
God Over Money's (GOM) Bizzle has never hesitated to speak on the current issues either in the church or current social turmoil. With his latest single, he addresses the misunderstanding between police officers and African Americans related to how their interwoven into social injustice along with racial tension. The first 25 seconds are filled with an ear-pleasing array of instrumentation different from typical hip-hop tracks. Then, Bizzle speaks on law enforcement during the first verse before flip-flopping the scenario during verse two hearing the perspective of a black man speaking to the police in general. SuperSplash Bros. 2 by Parris Chariz x Jarry Manna
World 45 collective’s Parris Chariz and Jarry Manna return with the second installment of SuperSplash Bros. The first project was an EP released almost three years ago containing four highly successful tracks. Apparently, that was just the appetizer to the full meal this album presents. Ty Brasel returns for a feature spot along with NOT KLYDE, 1K Phew, and M.C.
The album was mixed and mastered by one of the best in the CHH space, Medisin. He’s been a crucial part of nearly every Chariz release. I personally didn’t think Chariz could top the eclectic vibe, sonics, and creative content his last album 2045 presented last year. However, Chariz has once again outperformed expectations as this album contains some of the best content in CHH and hip-hop overall. A portion of this excellence is pulled from the chemistry Chariz and Manna share. The only comparable example I can think of was 2017's Magic & Bird from Andy Mineo and Wordsplayed. The manner they feed off each other’s energy and how well their bar performance interlocks together is beautiful.
I think we’ve found the summer soundtrack for 2021. The soundscape goes crazy throughout, a staple in Chariz’s art. From the melodic guitar and woodwinds to the erratic telephone rings, and even quick-paced electronic keys are only a few of the brilliant sonic apertures contained within these nine tracks. Spoken Worth feat. J. Crum - "Wrestle"
South Florida resident Spoken Worth preps to drop a new album (Crucible Chronicles), three years in the making, next Friday. Before the album release, he’s debuting his first single of 2021 aside Streetlight Sounds J. Crum. The single is entitled, “Wrestle.” The single is a fierce, hard-hitting array of sound aligning both spoken word poetry and lyricism. “Wrestle” was handcrafted to challenge, comfort, and ultimately inspire the listener to confront past wounds and scars earned in life. Also, the basis of the track borrows from the story of Jacob in the bible when God and he confront each other leading up to the establishment of Israel. A driving variety of strings lead Worth's voice and Crum's bars throughout. Listen to "Wrestle" on Spotify here.
