Phil Thompson has recently stepped into a up front worship role, something he has not always done. Used to being behind the pen, he has been singing since childhood and writing music since about the age of 30. He wrote many songs for Ashmont Hill and other notable artists like JJ Hairston. He felt a calling though to do something more.
In 2017, Phil devoted himself to full-time praise of the Lord. Soon after, he released his debut album which gained success on Billboard Charts and earned nominations for several awards including the Dove Awards. He will be releasing his sophomore project this summer; the first single from it is "Jesus," released this past Friday. It has given us high hopes for the upcoming album, a fresh wave of music we look forward to using to worship the Lord.
NEW: "Jesus"
I'll shout your name Through all the pain No other name, Your precious name
The soft sound of the choir perfectly accompanies the beautiful message of this song. A reminder to call upon the Lord, one that sent chills throughout my body. A reminder to let go of the worries of the day, to stop obsessively checking the clock and just be. Just sit in His presence. No other "relaxation technique" normally works to calm me down in the midst of anxiety but this did. The name of Jesus has power. Power over anything harmful that will ever come our way. His presence is sacred and unmistakable. If Jesus is near, you'll feel it. His presence is just that powerful. Oh Jesus. Jesus, we love you.
NEW: "Constant Mercies"
I will not fear, Your presence is here over me
Constant mercies unrestrained
Great is Your faithfulness
Great is Your grace, great is Your grace
Do you ever look around you and see people pushing Christ away so hard that it makes you miserable just to watch? On the opposite extreme is gazing at the people beside you with an incredible sense of home and peace because they pursue Christ with all their might? I’m certainly not saying you can only be friends with Christians. It’s actually extremely important to step outside the church family because that’s where so much healing and discipleship happens. Even just looking around puts God’s work into perspective. He changes everything. I’m not the person I was before I surrendered to Jesus and I recognize that. There’s a peace in my heart now that I see lacking in many others. My continuous prayer is that Jesus will continue to burn a fire in my heart for Him because I never want to run from His constant mercies. Building on that is a cry for opportunities to spread the joy. He has never failed me and what a wonderful thrill it is to share that truth with others. I pray you would also recognize His constant mercies in your life today and be empowered to share those with people around you.
