Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
Jon Keith - "GENES" Newly independent artist Jon Keith (formally under Kings Dream Entertainment) pushes forward those fresh vibes for the people. Based on Scripture from Psalm 55:17, Keith expresses that God is with us through victories and distress and always hears our cries out during difficult seasons. The track begins with harmonizing before Keith blesses us with typical hard-hitting bars and unique rhyme schemes. He's one of the most underrated emcees out there. His Anti-Hero album from last summer was one of the best projects circulating, however, was lost beneath heavyweights like Lecrae, KB, and Parris Chariz. Keep a keen eye out for Keith, as 2021 should prove how big his presence within the genre demands.
Borderline EP by BrvndonP
Rock Paper Scissors Music Group (RPSMG) artist BrvndonP is truly a musical renaissance man. His talent profile includes a sensational drummer, an iconic producer, an underrated rapper, an artist who can rap and sing near flawlessly, and other hidden gifts. The new project from him highlights these talents and adds a greater appreciation from his fanbase. The EP is smothered in fun, bouncy vibes quick to get listeners dancing and moving. When listening closely with intent, one can hear his unique soundscapes absent from your typical CHH or Urban Soul track. Favorite tracks include "Stuck on You," "Don't Kill It," and "Secrets." The overall sound is refreshing. An escape from the norm. This EP will remain a favorite of mine for quite some time.
Bridgewater - "I.O.U."
The husband and wife duo returns with a force in time for Valentine's Day weekend to bless us with "I.O.U." One of their many talents includes the ability for either of them to rock the mic in harmonies or solid rap deliveries. This time around, Josh owns the harmonizing while Kristina lays down sweet bar after bar. The track was created to focus on the goodness of God's love for us despite our faults and the chaotic current world. The vibe of the track is super chill. It gives off the feel of a love and worship track to our Creator and His Son. I, for one, am super excited for their return and anticipate more music soon.
