Over the past few years, there have been so many new female artists releasing music in the Christian pop genre. But, surprisingly, the future of pop music from women isn't coming from the label system. It's coming from independent corners. It's been amazing to see female artists take on the daunting task of releasing music independently, and seeing them flourish in it. I've compiled a list of some upcoming female pop artists that are doing some amazing things in Christian music.
Grace Graber
If you haven't heard of artist Grace Graber yet, you seriously need to check her out. After a Hawk Nelson song saved her life, she decided that she wanted to get into music herself. Last year, she released her debut single "Serious," and, recently, she dropped her four-track pop EP, In My Head. When I first heard her music, I was so impressed by the high-quality production, and her amazing vocals. She's already leaving a mark in the Christian music industry, and I believe that this is only the very beginning of her music career. You're going to be hearing a lot from Grace in the next few years.
Holly Halliwell
Holly Halliwell is a Christian pop artist who recently launched her music career thanks to a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. Holly dropped her debut single, "Your Love," in 2020, which was produced by Grammy-award-winning producers Seth Mosley and X O'Connor. Although she's new to the music scene, she's already off to a great start. Her latest single "Brand New" is her first release of 2021. It's a great song to kick off the new year. It serves as a reminder that we're brand new in Christ, which is something that we all need to hear right now.
Vaughn Owens
Alabama native Vaughn Owens describes her music as "a raw message of hope with a bopping beat." I think that's exactly how I would describe her music, too. Her pop music is unique, and the messages in all of her music are raw and honest. The first song I ever heard from Vaughn was "You'll Do It Again," which certainly caught my attention. Since then, she's released another single called "In The Middle." That song is fun and upbeat, and it captures her bold vocals. Vaughn is another artist to keep your eye on. I'm excited to see what's next for her and her music career.
Skylee Shea
Funny story: back in 2019, I met Skylee Shea's dad at a concert. I had no idea who she was, but later I looked her up and said, 'Wow.' Since then, it's been incredible watching Skylee flourish and find her place in Christian music. Last year, she released "Drowning," which was written after she went through a toxic relationship. A few months ago, she released her latest single, "When I Speak Your Name." It's my favorite track from her. It's a beautiful song, and it's a comforting reminder of who Jesus is. If her latest two singles are just a glimpse at new music to come, I'm sure we're in store for some great new pop music.
Shaylee Simeone
Shaylee Simeone is an incredible worship artist, who puts a pop twist on her music. Her first release was in 2013 when she dropped a Christmas EP, Happy Christmas. Since then, she's released a lot of amazing singles. Her latest, "All of the Earth Is Yours," dropped in 2020. It's a beautiful song. I love when an artist puts a pop edge on a worship song. That's exactly what Shaylee does with all of her music. Shaylee is one of my favorite independent artists. Her voice is incredible, and the quality of her music is spot-on.
Skye Reedy
Musician Skye Reedy has definitely been catching the attention of a lot of people in the Christian music industry lately. For a good reason, too. Skye, a worship leader, has a thriving career in Christian music. Just like Shaylee Simeone, Skye has a lot of worship songs that have a pop edge. Two years ago, she sang with Michael W. Smith when he re-released his hit song "Agnus Dei," which is a highlight for any worship artist. In autumn 2020, Skye released her latest single, "Holy (Take Out Breath Away)," which is a worshipful song that exalts God. So, if you're looking for an artist who emphasizes worship, check out Skye Reedy.
Abby Robertson
I first discovered musician Abby Robertson on Instagram. At Christmas, she released her rendition of "The Christmas Song," which garnered over 1.4 million views on YouTube. In February, Abby will be debuting her first official single, "Sanctuary." And, let me tell you, it's incredible. Abby has a beautiful voice, and I'm so excited for the world to hear her music. I believe that she'll be "the next big thing" in Christian music. All of these Christian female artists are incredibly talented. You'll be hearing a lot from them in the future.
Grace Chaves has been a fan of all things Christian music since 2016. She is one of NRT's youngest writers. Homeschooled, Grace is an author, loves Jesus, concerts, and road-trips.
