We miss physical tours and seeing our favorite artist's faces and voices. But, despite the things we miss, we're seeing new and creative opportunities pop up in this time of uncertainty. Artists creating digital performances is a great example. What I like is that bands are still making and releasing new music that speaks to our hearts and minds. And, I'm thankful for it all. It helps me feel not so alone. I hope the content you find in the Rock Report encourages you.
New Artist: Ever Eden
Ever Eden is an American four-piece metalcore band from Missouri. Their music is aggressive, honest, and thought-provoking. Although they're an independent band, they have shown so much potential already with two singles, "Senescence" and "Sacrosanctuary," with the latter featuring the two singers from metalcore band Oh, Sleeper.
"Senescence" contemplates the subject of life and death, while "Sacrosanctuary" focuses on hypocritical and corrupt faults that the church sometimes finds itself in. They plan to release a full-length debut album titled, Illumine, later this year. I'm highly anticipating this album's release. Ever Eden has a distinct songwriting style that is sure to keep you hooked during your listen.
New Tour: Gold, Frankincense, and Myyrh's "E-Tour"
While tours are currently on hold, rock band Gold, Frankincense, and Myyrh (GFM) have decided to interact with their fans the best they can despite this setback. The band announced an online tour where they perform some songs on the radio or a website. This online tour is accompanied by a brand new single, "Taking Over." The song's name is almost pun-like, as they are taking over media. The current dates are April 10 to 26 with more to be announced. This is a very creative way for GFM to stay involved with fans who are looking for live performances.
New Headline: The Letter Black Signs with Rockfest Records
After taking a hiatus, The Letter Black is making music again. Recently, the band has been active on social media, talking about their faith in God, which is refreshing. But, the big news is that The Letter Black has signed with Rockfest Records to help create and release their fourth untitled studio album. The band signing with the new rock label holds great promise. I'm excited to hear what new rock music comes out with both talented teams working together. Rockfest Records shares, "In case you haven't heard yet, The Letter Black is the newest addition to the Rockfest family. Are you ready for what's coming next from these Christian rock veterans?" I'm ready.
New Throwback: Blindside, "Silence"
Blindside, a Swedish post-hardcore band with six studio albums under their belt, hasn't done much since their 2011 release, With Shivering Hearts We Wait. In July 2019, the band re-emerged with a new single, "Gravedigger," and an announcement that new music will follow. Silence, Blindside's third album, is what earned the band some much-deserved attention. The album's hits include "Pitiful," "Sleepwalking," and "Silence." Each song shows off lead singer Christian Lindskog's captivating Swedish-influenced vocal style, along with the band's natural expertise in hardcore music. Silence is full of raw emotion and honesty. Itoffers a heavy and vulnerable mix that is truly unique to Blindside. This nearly 20-year-old album is a total gem in the hardcore music scene and still deserves all the attention it gets.
New Devotional: Red, "Cauterize"
Rock veterans Red has released their first independent album. It's arguably the heaviest album they have ever made. But, there are true and honest lyrics behind all the intense music and passionate screaming. Their song, "Cauterize," offers a challenge to "burn away" what holds you back, in order to move forward in life (1 Corinthians 15:33 and Ephesians 5:10-11 come to mind). This might be unhealthy relationships, unchecked sin habits, or an otherwise unresolved conflict. We often feel like this wound always comes back, "Leave it all behind you/That's fine, but sometimes/the buried comes crawling back to you." But here is the chorus' challenge: "Cauterize/when it bleeds/Burn away the broken lies that I still believe." What is the wound that you have not yet cauterized? What is it that you need to rid of or resolve to become healthier?
