Passion's songs have consistently been some of the most popular in all of worship music, with many of their songs being sung by millions in churches all across the country. Some of their recent staples include "10,000 Reasons," "Lord, I Need You," "One Thing Remains," "My Victory," and "Even So Come."

The live releases drawn from each year's conferences have been highly anticipated since the first edition in 1998. Their worship songs have been a constant companion for me personally on my faith journey. And, I've had the privilege to speak with many Passion artists over the past 11 years of writing these devotionals, including "Waiting Here For You," "Whom Shall I Fear," "You Found Me," "Lift Your Head Weary Sinner," and "Whole Heart."

Follow You Anywhere marks the newest release from Passion, with new standout songs by Kristian Stanfill, Brett Younker, Melodie Malone, Sean Curran and Crowder. This album lights a fire in Christians to know and proclaim what Christ stands for, no matter what the world tells them to do. God can do immeasurably more than anything and everything one can ask or even imagine. And this song is a true celebration of the great biblical truth of "Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us," from Ephesians 3:20. God wants us to boldly approach the throne of mercy and grace to receive and obtain what we need from Him. I had the chance to speak with singer Kristian Stanfill about "Follow You Anywhere."

Please tell me the personal story behind the song.

It started with writing the chorus of the song. This is one of those pieces where as soon as we started writing the song, I knew we needed to sing it at Passion. The reason why I wanted this is that part of Passion is about calling college students into a life that is fully surrendered to Jesus and to go anywhere and do anything in the name of Jesus. It's also the message of the Gospel and is the Great Commission. Go here, go there, and go everywhere and take the message of the Cross. It's a costly lyric. I wrestled with the lyrics in the bridge: “Wherever You lead me/Whatever it costs me/All I want is You.” To be completely honest, I can feel people shrink back from those lyrics. It is a costly thing to say and I can feel myself shrink back from that commitment. I like my life and my comforts and the stuff that I have. Am I okay with saying yes to whatever Jesus asks me to do? The answer has to be yes.

Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?

Psalm 13:5-6 (MSG): “I've thrown myself headlong into Your arms—I'm celebrating Your rescue. I'm singing at the top of my lungs; I'm so full of answered prayers.”

Proverbs 18:10 (MSG): "God's name is a place of protection; good people can run there and be safe."

Psalm 91:1-2 (NKJV): "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust."

Mark 16:15-16 (NKJV): "And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but, he who does not believe will be condemned.'"

Luke 9:23 (VOICE): "If any of you want to walk My path, you're going to have to deny yourself. You'll have to take up your cross every day and follow Me."

Philippians 1:3 (VOICE): “Whenever you cross my mind, I thank my God for you and for the gift of knowing you.”

Romans 8:28 (VOICE): “We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.”

Romans 8:37 (NLT): "No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us."

Ephesians 2:13 (NKJV): “But, now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV): "Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever. Amen."

What is the takeaway message?

I feel people shrink back from the message of "Follow You Anywhere," but Jesus never backed down from the cost. Jesus said in Luke: “If any of you want to walk My path, you're going to have to deny yourself. You'll have to take up your cross every day and follow Me." That’s full-on. Paul says in Philippians: "I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things." I want to get what Paul got and understand living my life that way. Hopefully, this song helps people live that way as well. Stepping out in faith and following God may sound like a risk, but we aren’t really risking anything when we are following God. His past faithfulness gives us confidence of His future faithfulness. When we remember what God has done for us we can say, “Wherever You lead me/Whatever it costs me/All I want is You." I’ve already met people who have said "Follow You Anywhere" inspired them to step outside of their comfort zone and taking the message of the cross of Jesus to the nations. I pray that this song gives people a boldness and courage to step out in faith and follow where Jesus is leading them.

Lyrics:
You make it easy to love You
You are good and You are kind
You bring joy into my life
You make it easy to trust You
You have never left my side
You've been faithful every time

All I want is You
Jesus, all I want is You

You are the refuge I run to
You are the fire that leads me through the night
I'll follow You anywhere
There's a million reasons to trust You
Nothing to fear for You are by my side
I'll follow You anywhere

Oh Jesus, You came to my rescue
Took my place upon that cross
You redeemed what I had lost
Now my whole world revolving around You
Yes
You're the center of my life
You're the treasure, You're the prize

All I want is You
Jesus, all I want is You

You are the refuge I run to
You are the fire that leads me through the night
I'll follow You anywhere
There's a million reasons to trust You
Nothing to fear for You are by my side
I'll follow You anywhere
Follow You anywhere

I'll follow You anywhere
Wherever You lead me
Whatever it costs me
All I want is You
Jesus, all I want is You
Wherever You lead me
Whatever it costs me
All I want is You
Jesus, all I want is You
Wherever You lead me
Whatever it costs me
All I want is You
Jesus, all I want is You

You are the refuge I run to
You are the fire that leads me through the night
I'll follow You anywhere
There's a million reasons to trust You
Nothing to fear for You are by my side
I'll follow You anywhere
Follow You anywhere

Woah
I'll follow You anywhere
Woah
Follow You anywhere

Closing Thoughts

I really enjoyed reading David Platt's best-selling books "Radical" and "Follow Me." Quoting Platt: "What did Jesus really mean when he said, 'follow me'? Scores of men, women, and children have been told that becoming a follower of Jesus simply involves believing certain truths or saying certain words. We want to be disciples as long as doing so does not intrude on our lifestyles, our preferences, our comforts, and even our religion. The call to follow Jesus is not simply an invitation to pray a prayer; it is a summons to lose your life and to find new life in Him."

I personally take a lot of solace in knowing the Truth of Proverbs 18:10 (NKJV): "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." I love that every translation of those words of wisdom from Proverbs tells believers to "run" to the name of the Lord. In the midst of any pain you are dealing with, run to Jesus. This song is a faith statement. Righteousness was accredited to Abraham for his faith. We need to have the faith that the Bible describes in Hebrews 11:1 (NIV): "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." When you sing along with this great song, think of Jesus saying "Why are you fearful; O, you of little faith?" Have faith, don't be afraid and know that with Jesus, you will never be alone.

We're commanded to spread the Good News of the Gospel in the Great Commission. In Mark 16:15, Jesus commands: "Preach the Gospel to every creature." There are no conditions or exceptions in that command. It's more of a lifestyle that Jesus calls us to live as Christians. This worship anthem is just the type of infusion that the church needs with its honesty and bold lyrics.

"God's name is a place of protection. Run there and be safe" is what God's Word tells us. We can call out for Jesus, and He will keep us safe. This is a truth for believers to cling to. We're not supposed to just hope it is true, or turn to the Lord as only our last resort. But, daily be washed by the Truth of the Word of God. If we learn to build our lives on scripture, we would all have a rock as our foundation as we navigate our lives. We can know for a fact that the words of this song are true: “You are the refuge I run to, You are the fire that leads me through the night, I'll follow You anywhere, There's a million reasons to trust You, Nothing to fear for You are by my side, I'll follow You anywhere.” Amen to that.
