Tired of Basic is the third album from the CCM sister duo LoveCollide, which is made up of Lauren Budnick and Brooke DeLeary. It takes a major step forward sonically while maintaining messages that are unashamed of the Gospel. The album includes the standout tracks, "Wildfire," "Undeniable" and "I Don't Want It." It is a solid follow-up to their sophomore project, RESONATE, which featured the mission-minded title track "Resonate," "Atmosphere" and "Storms." I had the chance to speak with Brooke and Lauren about "Undeniable."

Please tell me the personal story behind this song.

Brooke: We were looking to write a song about stepping into the presence and majesty of God. Once you step into His presence, you realize how huge and untamable that is, and that led us to try to come up with words to describe God. In the bridge, we use different words to describe Him, including untamable, unstoppable and unchanging. In stepping into His power we used the visuals of mountains bowing down because that's how we feel it would visibly look like.

Lauren: If you've listened to the lyrics, it's our most worshipful song. It's straight up worship. All of our other songs are Christian lyrics and are speaking to God or about our personal journeys, but this song speaks of God and who He is. In the song, we are worshipping who He is and worshipping His name and His might. You see all over the Bible that when people are in hard times, or when they are at the mountaintop, they are called to worship God. He needs to be the center of our world. With this song, we felt called to express those thoughts about how the nations quake before Him, how mighty He is and how we fall on our faces in awe before Him.

Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?

Nahum 1:5 (VOICE): "In response to Him, mountains quake and mudslides flow down melting hillsides. The planet and all who live on it are overwhelmed in His presence."

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV): "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."

John 15:5 (NKJV): "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."

Matthew 17:20 (NIV): "He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Romans 8:11 (VOICE): "If the Spirit of the One who resurrected Jesus from the dead lives inside of you, then you can be sure that He who raised Him will cast the light of life into your mortal bodies through the life-giving power of the Spirit residing in you."

Ephesians 5:13-14 (VOICE): "When the light shines, it exposes even the dark and shadowy things and turns them into pure reflections of light. This is why they sing, Awake, you sleeper! Rise from your grave, and the Anointed One will shine on you."

Acts 2:28 (VOICE): "Instead You direct me on a path that leads to a beautiful life. As I walk with You, the pleasures are never-ending, and I know true joy and contentment."

Ephesians 3:14-21 (NKJV): "For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height-- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."

Psalm 63:4 (VOICE): "I will bless You with every breath of my life; I will lift up my hands in praise to Your name."

What is the takeaway message?

Brooke: We are passionate about being tired of being basic. We don't want to hold back anymore. We want to be bold and let the Holy Spirit explode out of us. This song is an acknowledgment of who God is. I've heard people say I felt the Holy Spirit move tonight. He is always moving powerfully and sometimes we need to be aware of how He is moving in us. We need to realize that Jesus is all around us. When I sing the song I remember how God is here with me. It is a calling to God for revival, making mountains bow and for people to cry out to Him. We want to start a revival. We want to be excited and sing about what is possible through Him. The song puts me into the frame of mind that I'm ready for revival and I'm calling on Him to invade this place.

Lauren: Whenever we realized the power, the majesty and might that God has, we remember that Jesus told us that we will do all these things and, even greater, when we reflect on who God is and who we are in Him, we need to remember that we have that power because God lives in us. We don't need to have fear, because God has given us His Holy Spirit living inside of us. Because the song is so worshipful, every time we sing it, it really brings us into God's presence. This song is a breath in our set and brings me into alignment with God's presence.

Lyrics:
O my God, a consuming fire
Spirit fall, renew Your power
Make Your majesty and glory known
Across the earth from Heaven's throne

The nations quake, the mountains shake
Dead hearts come awake at the power of Your name
All Heaven bows, the earth cries out
Our God, He's un-undeniable

Undeniable
Oh, Undeniable

In Your presence the darkness fades
With a whisper the storms obey
Just one touch and the shadows leave
By the power of Christ the King

The nations quake, the mountains shake
Dead hearts come awake at the power of Your name
All Heaven bows, the earth cries out
Our God, He's un-undeniable

Undeniable
Oh, Undeniable

Untameable, unstoppable
Your reign will never end
Unchanging God of Heaven
You're coming back again
How can we not worship?
How can we not praise?
We fall face down in Your overwhelming grace

Undeniable
Undeniable (Undeniable)
Undeniable (Undeniable)
Oh, Undeniable

Closing Thoughts

Do yourself a favor and buy Tired of Basic immediately. You'll be refreshed, nourished and encouraged to turn to God for your strength. LOVECOLLIDE's music truly sets me apart from daily distractions and circumstances, causing me to focus all of my attention on Jesus. Something the Lord has been teaching me in writing these devotionals over the past 10 years is to point people to the Truth of Scripture found in these songs of faith, as it can bring us back to Him. This song is all about having a strong faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Sometimes we have a tendency to think we can try to know everything. God tells us in the Bible that with faith, we can do anything in Christ.

We shouldn't wait to fix ourselves before we step out in faith. We need to fully trust God.

A theme verse for me for these devotionals has been Romans 8:11, and God keeps bringing the Truth of His resurrection power through His Holy Spirit residing in believers to my attention. That's the beauty of His Word: it doesn't return void, and it provides a constant source of comfort, guidance and how to draw closer to Him.

This song is a great way to allow the truth of the Gospel to soak in, starting with the first verse, "O my God, a consuming fire, Spirit fall, renew Your power, Make Your majesty and glory known, Across the earth from Heaven's throne." That's the filling of the Holy Spirit described in Romans 8:11. The Lord wants to use us, drawing us closer to Himself and sending us out filled with His Spirit, as in Ephesians 5:13-14: "When the light shines, it exposes even the dark and shadowy things and turns them into pure reflections of light. This is why they sing." I can't get enough of this song, especially the bridge, "Untameable, unstoppable, Your reign will never end, Unchanging God of Heaven, You're coming back again, How can we not worship? How can we not praise? We fall face down in Your overwhelming grace!" Amen to that!
