A Journey From Surrender to Celebration | Posted March-13-2025
The Offerings album is a collection of 8 songs that the band put together with the church's youth groups in mind! The songs offer us a powerful journey through worship, faith, and the realities of a life with Christ at its center. From the surrender of "Adonai" to the hope found in the song "Heaven", it invites us into deeper devotion even though we may be struggling with pain, purpose, and not understanding God’s unshakable presence. The songs "Foundation" and "Valley" remind us of His promises, while "This Life" encourages us to live fully on His terms. The songs "PEACE", "Friend of Sinners", and "I Claim" remind us that suffering isn’t wasted but is changed (transformed) through His grace.
Let's have a closer look at each song:
01. Adonai - Adonai is a call to surrender and worship, and to reflecting on why we often fall so short of fully obeying and praising God. The song invites us to offer our whole lives as an act of devotion to the One who is truly worthy—Adonai.
02. Heaven - Heaven, how does one even start to describe it? The lyrics in this song move away from the traditional imagery of serene angels with harps. Instead, the lyrics use other descriptions found in the scriptures, such as joyous feast and vibrant party. The song was written with youth and summer camps in mind. 'Heaven' is an upbeat description of what it will be like to be with Jesus!
03. Foundation - "Foundation" is a worship song about Christ, the unshakable cornerstone of faith. The lyrics stand still at His sacrifice—"killed for my salvation"—and His role as the "sure foundation" that replaces our shame with His mercy. The song invites us to build our lives on His grace, and declare, "I have only one foundation: Christ nailed upon the cross." This is such a powerful reminder that He is "The living stone // A sure foundation // My cornerstone."
04. This Life - "This Life" is a raw and honest song about choosing to fully embrace the life that God has set in His sight, even when it’s hard. The lyrics acknowledge how we can be struggling—"life can take me, break me"—but it also contains a a bold commitment to live a life filled with His purpose and intention, refusing to compromise or settle for less. "But my life is set in your every second // Details of this moment filled to the fullest // For a life that's set in your sight"
05. Valley - "Valley" is a powerful song of faith, one that has been around for a while with a message that never bores. God is always there for us, "In the darkest valley, Your victory gives me joy." The lyrics enourages us to look up when life pulls us down, "For Heaven's king walks with me", and remember that the pain we face is temporary. There is hope and strength in knowing that His victory endures, and His cross speaks freedom over each one of us.
06. Peace - “PEACE” was written after the devastation of two miscarriages. As is normal for the Red Letter Society team, “PEACE” is based off of text found within the Bible. During the season of grief the songwriters were able to remind eachother that God walks with us through the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23).
07. Friend of Sinners - Just like the King of Kings stoops to wash our feet, "Friend of Sinners" shows the paradox of Christ's holiness vs. meeting the brokenness of mankind. The song connects Christ's sacrifice on the cross, God's grace, the healing that comes from Him, and the fact that Jesus calls us friend. He is a Friend of all sinners who call on His name.
08. I Claim - Suffering has been part of life ever since Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden. And still, even in modern Christianity we struggle with life's pain. “I Claim” urges us, the Church, to see our earthly suffering as a pathway to glory in His presence. "If suffering in the present means glory in his presence // Then I claim, I claim Jesus’ holy name // It’s beyond comprehension how I join the resurrection // So I claim Jesus’ Holy Name"
May this journey from surrender to celebration remind you that no matter what struggles you face, His grace turns all things for His good. Heaven's king is eager to walk with you, if you let Him.
Finding Peace in His Perfect Design | Posted February-12-2025
Freedom Heart’s song “Plans” dives into the struggle we all know of trying to control our own lives, and at a certain point we realize/accept that God’s way is always better. The lyrics reflect the moment of surrender, where we acknowledge that we often make mistakes and lose sight of our calling, and that God’s plans are perfect, beyond anything that we could imagine.
The verses beautifully capture this tension—of admitting fears of failure and at the same time finding comfort in the truth that God has a greater plan for us and He never fails. The chorus makes it clear that no matter how much we doubt, we can’t derail God’s purpose for us. God sees what we can’t see and promises to guide us along every step of our journey. The bridge of the song helps to shift our mindset to bold confidence, declaring an end to our overthinking because His Spirit and Word anchors us securely (if we accept it).
May this reassure you that by trusting God, we are embracing peace, even when the path ahead seems to be unclear. After all, His plans aren’t just good—they’re perfect!
Turning Daily Life Into Sacred Moments | Posted February-03-2025
In his song "Face to Face," Yemi Alafifuni expresses our deepest (and sometimes dormant) desire to have a deeper relationship with God. This isn't one of those songs that was written within a few hours at the kitchen table. It's a song that has been years in the making and inspired by a whisper Yemi heard during his 2-3 hour daily commutes in 2019. Yemi shares:
"I heard a whisper in my spirit: “Come away with Me.” At first I resisted. I was already drained, both physically and mentally. But this prompting didn’t stop—it grew stronger. I knew this wasn’t just another passing thought; it was an invitation. So I obeyed."
Yemi's long daily commutes turned his car into a sanctuary of prayer. This sacred space nurtured a personal cry for more, a face-to-face encounter with God, the kind of intimacy that Moses had when he spoke with God as a friend. This became Yemi's personal cry. It wasn’t about doubt—it was about hunger. And it's in that hunger that the concept of "Face to Face" was born, and you can hear this hunger in the lyrics: "Can I see you face to face? Father to son" and "My soul thirsts for God."
No matter how hard Yemi tried to complete it, it felt like he was hitting a wall... as if God was saying: “You’re not ready yet.”
Something happened five years later, during the night of March 5, 2024. Yemi had almost forgotten about the song. His journey with God had deepened in ways that he didn’t expect, and during that night God gave Yemi the melody for this song.
So you see, "Face to Face" is the outcome of a long journey, a journey filled with hunger to see God more clearly, to know Him more intimately, and to experience worship in a way that goes beyond lyrics and melodies.
In the true Christian spirit of paying it forward, "Face to Face" is your invitation to grow a deeper relationship with God, because as you seek and long for God, you might just find the true intimacy that your heart craves. Yemi shares: "This verse has carried me through difficult seasons. Knowing that God will bring end to pain and sorrow gives me strength. My song 'New' reflects this promise - a time where there will be no more tears, only joy in His presence."

This week we're blessed with a fresh take on the nativity story with the album "whispering HOPE 5", the latest release by whispering HOPE. It can be quite a challenge to separate truth from flawed teachings. Some teachings can be flawed, dispite the honest intent of the person sharing these teachings. We constantly need to be aware that flaws, or even outright lies, sneek into our minds and hearts. These songs challenge prevailing societal narratives, particularly regarding the theory of evolution. The lyrics promote staying close to the source of trues a creationist and criticise the perceived indoctrination by "liars" who spread falsehoods. Three songs address this theme. The following lyrics stand out:
Liar, Liar… - "Liar, liar, pants on fire, Why’d you have to lie, to me?, You say we come from monkeys, but there’s a missing link, Why don’t you ever tell us, there’s one for everything?"

'My Anchor' is like a warm hug, again emphasizing that God is always within your reach. It’s a comforting reminder that God anchors us with His peace, no matter what we're facing in life.
The track 'Renew My Heart' is a prayer for spiritual refreshment. Emmy's plea for renewal is something we all need in our busy lives, and it reminds us to look for God’s transformative love.
'His Beacon' is about God’s guiding light, a light that we shouldn't be hiding under a bushel. Emmy reminds us that the world badly needs His light, and encourages you to reflect His light for others.
The song ‘Heal Our World’, so relevant in today's broken world, calls us to play our part in uniting and healing the world, and ask God to give our world the healing that it needs.
